That if for some reason you ended up in the hospital or incapacitated for a little while that everyone who would come to see you would see the hair growing under/on your chin? I worry so much about that! I also look at the girls on Survivor and I am so jealous because they don't have a full beard after a few weeks in the jungle!
My grandma (who does NOT have PCOS) has a few chin hairs (she's 70 and has 7 children of her own). Her hairs were NEVER obvious in the past, until she was diagnosed with Alzheimers. My aunt or I remove them for her because she always did it for herself and would be MORTIFIED if it was really obvious.

Yes! When I was in the hospital after my C-section for DS it was awful, and I wasn't even truly incapacitated. It's so unfair we have to worry about this.

Nowadays in a number of hospitals I've noticed that they make provision for shaving elderly women if necessary. Some older women who I know shave every day have been shaved by the hospital staff. It wouldn't have happened 20 years ago, but it does now. So provided you'll accept using an electric razor, there shouldn't be any organisational problem. That doesn't help the embarrassment problem, except insofar as knowing that it's not all that way out a request.
I have a similar scenario running through my mind sometimes, where I'm in a coma and all hair breaks loose. It is sad, and I'm counting on my mom take care of "things" if God forbid anything like that ever happened.
A few years ago, my sister had a psychotic episode and was hospitalizes for a few months. She had a beard within 3 days Mom and me took care of it for her with hot wax.

yes this was a huge fear of mine as a teenager when no one atall knew i shaved my upper lip.
now i worry but a few people know about my issues now, but yes i would be mortified if they let my beard grow. saying that for years i was in denial and bleached it thinking it was not noticable and everyone had hair on their face, i did get paranoid when the sun hit my face as the hair was very long, it was a group of teenage boys who allerted me to the fact saying hay look that girl has a beard now i epilate it or shave it off has been the recent one, going to try waxing soon.
i think i will have a talk with my hubby and sisters just to make sure that any hair will be removed should i be unable

Oh God yes I used to think about this all of the time. I had an even more irrational fear that I would be put in jail (never arrested once, but I said it was irrational) where there were no tweezers/wax and I would grow a thick mustache!!
This is actually why I don't/won't shave anymore- there are too many reasons why I might not be able to spend 20 min alone w/ a new razor/ water and a mirror- I switched to a lot of tweezing, periodic waxing, and Vaniqua. All it takes is letting it grow out once for almost a week (I did it on vacation, was that important to me,) and then going in w/wax & plucking for an hour. Once I do a big cleanup on my face, I can go a solid week before it looks bad, and it used to need shaving daily.
in fact i always need to make sure i have a razor to hand as theres always a chance of going out and stopping out all night or at a friends and having a few drinks and its the morning after i fear (i'm still at the young out all night stage)
i get so jealous of my mates who wake up and lounge about all clean faced and i have to ensure i hit the bathroom before showing my face

You are far from alone! I was hospitalized for 2 months with my last pregnancy. I had the "advantage" of knowing sooner or later I'd be put in the hospital (I had a very high risk pregnancy) so had a bag packed with tweezers and a razor. I kept it at my bedside with a small mirror and plucked away. In the meantime my legs became very furry, but that was the least of my worries. I'd rather have hairy legs than a hairy face!
My mother and I have an agreement - if either of us ends up like that the other will have to do plucking duty on the chin! A horrible thing to think of, but my mother doesn't want to end up in a retirement home with long chin hairs.
I've noticed a couple of times on Survivor that near the end of a series that some women don't even have any underarm growth ... I'm wondering if maybe they waxed right before they started the show or if there is a stash of razors hidden away ...

I once heard (and I'm not sure if this is true or not) that the contestants on Survivor get to bring 1 or 2 small items with them from home. I always thought that if I ever were to do a show like that the first and foremost thing that I would bring (if I could) would be a razor or tweezers. I'd have to otherwise they wouldn't be able to tell me from the animals after a couple of weeks!!
GREAT!! Thanks ladies!! I had not really thought about this before !!! Now I am gonna be a basket case for a couple of weeks!!! Oh the trouble we go through!!!
