Smile Anyone else using an insulin pump?

I am just curious.... I know most people just use the meds as long as they can but I started becoming very concerned about how the meds affect my heart and my liver. (I was on metformin and avandia) I was starting to have really bad migraines and headaches and decided why delay the inevitable.... I will have to go on insulin someday anyways. I have been on Novolog 70/30 for the last few weeks until my pump arrived and I could get scheduled for training. Unfortunatley it hasn't worked well for me, I go in for pump training tomorrow... so hopefully I won't have to worry so much anymore. The headaches stopped though, and the dizzyness too, which is wonderful.

I was just wondering that if anyone else is using one... how goes it?

I don't use a pump but my roomate does. She is a type 1 and been on and off it for many years. She just got a new one called Cosmo and loves it. Her older one was a mini med and worked ok for her. I have asked her LOADS of questions about it. When she 1st got it she had big time issuse with doses at what times how much etc.... This new pump is so much better in ways of the timing for her. It gives her a 'basal' amount all the time and then when she is going to eat she can tell it how much she wants and when. I have never seem her have better control of her sugars then in the last few months with this cosmo. It took her about a month to get the hang of this new one.
Its so cool that you are going to a class about it. All she got was a over the DVD demo(didn't help at all). She was thankful that she had used one before. I asked her what she thought would be the best idea for you and she said to ask a TON of questions when you go in. Also what type of in insulin works best for the pump and YOU. She also wanted to say that is take your time getting to know the pump before you start really using it know and understand how it works it will make it much easier when something happens the 1st few times. Also, she said to check your sugar all the time when you are starting out to see how your body acts to it.

I wish you the best with this new pump and really hope it helps you. If you any questions you would like me to ask her about it all please feel free to ask. When you can update me and tell me how its all going. Best wishes!!
