is anyone else here vitamin D deficient? apparantly its one of the symptoms of PCOS. my doctor told me my blood showed a Vitamin D defficiency, despite the fact that i was outside for 12+ hours a day all summer long farming. so now i'm on 1000IUs of Vitamin D but i havn't noticed any difference in how i feel.
I don't know if I've been tested for it, but I drink whole fat milk to better process vitamin D. You need fat to process vitamins from what I understand. Just taking the vitamins might not help unless you have the fat with it. Take a bite of natural peanut butter when you take the pills or just have it after a meal.
I have to take additional vit. D as well. Actually, I started taking vit. D quite awhile before I was diagnosed with PCOS and I didn't realize this was tied to PCOS. I guess that is just another symptom in a long list of them that my PCP missed!
I'll start trying the peanut butter too! Any excuse for peanut butter is good! I am already a huge milk drinker (prob. about 1 gallon of Simply Smart a week)

yeah i take it at breakfast where i have cereal, milk and an ounce of nuts. so the nuts should take care of things.
Hi, yes my RE told me I was vitamin D deficient - so he had the pharmacy make a very strong vitamin D pill for me - its Vitamin D3 50,000IU. He is having me take it once a week for 6 weeks, and then once a month after that. It's apparently a very high/strong dose, because the pharmacy didn't want to do it without calling and speaking to my RE first to make sure it wasn't a mistake!

Yes, I have a Vitamin D issue as well. I can only take 1 or 2 percent milk. Whole milk makes me sick. However I am taking 50kIU of Vitamin D once a week.
What type of nuts should I eat to help me with this issue? Thanks.

i just mentioned nuts because they are all pretty high in mono-unsaturated fats (good fats) so they would help with the asporbtion of vitamin D. i eat walnuts, because i like them, but any nut will do.
My PCP tested me for a Vitamin D deficiency around the same time my OBGYB dxed me with PCOS. I was, in fact, very vitamin D deficient. I wasn't sure if the deficiency is a factor in CAUSING the PCOS, or if it's a SYMPTOM after the fact. All I know is that for the 3 months I've been on vitamin D, I've had 2 "somewhat" periods -- very, very light clotted blood. It's the first bleeding I had had in 8 months! So maybe vitamin D helps treat it? Who knows.
I was found to be Vitamin D deficient as well by one of the first PCOS specialists I had seen. She found it during my labs before I was diagnosed. I haven't began taking supplements yet because I want to start one new thing at a time. And at this time it seems Spiro will be the new thing I will need to try. I just want to be able to pinpoint positive and negative changes to one thing rather than trying to figure out if it is a supplement or a med.

Spiro has helped me. Remember you cannot take it while TTC. You need to stop it about a week before TTC because of a rare possible birth defect related to Spiro.
Yeah, walnuts are good for that. I like pecans better, but peanut butter is just something we have on hand at all times. Olive oil is also a good fat.

I Hiked Mt Fuji in Japan in AUGUST 2006
1000mg - Calcium
50,000IU Vit D twice a week
2000mg fish oil
1 prenatal vitamin
Iron Supplement
B12
Red Yeast
I asked my doc about this Friday and he said I should be on a women's multivitamin which would provide enough D for me each day. He said they don't test for this usually.
