I cannot access any of the cyster stories right now, but wondered if anyone ever had normal periods? I used to be predictable to the day until September. I had my third child in May and things have been 'off' since then. I was having 8 day long periods off for five days and then start again. Problem was I was not ovulating according to my doctor.
I was only recently diagnosed with PCO in January 2003. I started having problems in September of 2002 and after a couple of ultrasounds (including a saline-injected sonogram), glucose test, D&C, and hysteroscopy, here I am.
I have many of the common symptoms: have gained a lot of weight and have excess hair growth in unwanted places (most notably my chin). I have not had any AF since the D&C in mid-January, so I'm not sure what to expect next.
I am on MET right now (500 2x a day and will be moving up to 1000 2x a day in a week).

I had a regular AF for the first 2 months. After that, it's been crazy. Even when I was put on birth control to regulate it, there was no predicting it. I hope that one day I'll be regular. Until then, it's a guessing game for me.
I was totally regular for the first 10 years I had AF, then I went on depo and it all went downhill.
Some of us have never been regular in that sense, and some still are but have other symptoms. One of the joys of PCOS, I guess. Everyone seems to have a different batch of symptoms.
Thank you - that helps. I am still trying to learn more about PCO.

I basicaly have had a normal AF if you consider i was on the pill from about age 16 to 25. Then monthly AF until 2 months before I got pG(age 27).
Af seemed monthly until Jan 2001. Lost it completly.
Went to DR April 2001 and after blood work and hearing my symptoms was DX at that time with PCOS.
From June 2001 to Jan 2002 I "lost" AF 2-3 more times.
I finally broke down and went on Yasmin(info from this site)
To this day(1 year later) I have had a AF monthly. But it changed drasticly.
Jan 2003 DX with endometreosis.
I am due to have surgery March 2003.
FULL hysterectomy.
So even with endo, I basicaly have had a monthly AF.
I can't much what is "normal"
Hang in there,
Patty

U sound similar to me. I also have 3 children and for the first 15 years of my "womanhood" I had normal, predictable Af's. No problems conceiving. Then I turned 30....AF began to become a little irregular and it took 2 years to conceive my 3rd and final child. ( I have had 2 miscarriages as well occuring in my 30's) I also started noticing all the odd little things like facial hair, acne, weight gain etc. etc.
I am now 43 and have been diagnosed with PCOS, IR, and most recently, I am diabetic. I suspect that the onset of this syndrome, for me, occured in my late 20's and it has been degenerative ever since.

Been having a very normal and regular period til 23, then I started taking OCPs and now everything is a big mess.
I stopped taking the pill last may, when I didnt get my period when I should have .. the doc ran a few tests and to cut a long story short I ve been told that I have PCOS.Im not on any kind of medication yet, but will have to go for something soon.
I hadn't had a normal AF in well over a year, and then I started BC. Wow! I am SOOOOOO regular now!

I had my first AF one week b~4 my 7th birthday. Was regular with it untill I was 14 years old. I have been going to Dr's since then and was not told I had PCOS untill I have seen my "newest" Dr. every 2 months I have to get a pg test and then when it is a BFN Then it is back on Provera. I do have to say AF came December and January (31 days apart) all alone ... let's see what happens this month
This is an interesting post. I had a fairly regular-ish AF from the age of 13 to 17 (about a 32 day cycle) but then my acne got so bad I started taking Dianette (Diane) on and off until I was 24. Each time I took a break from it I got all the PCOS symptoms - no AF, worse acne and hirsutism....yuk.
About a year ago I decided to come off Dianette for good and at first my symptoms got worse than ever before. Then I started taking Agnus Castus and some good multivits and now I have had 2 AF in a row....and my symptoms are subsiding a bit. But I definitely think the BCP was the start of all my problems ??
