Default Anyone ever try a POP (mini pill)?

Ok, I went in for my 6 week post partum check up & they won't give me combo BCP, only POP (mini pill) Well, I got the rx for that and went on my way. I picked up my rx & read the insert. It says the failure rate after 1 year is 1 in 20 get pregnant. It also advises that you use back up protection around ovulation. The side effects are similar to that of PCOS ( hair growth on face, cysts on ovaries, weight gain, acne)

I am very concerned about taking this for fear of getting pregnant & of worsening my symptoms, does anyone have any experience with these? I don't know what else to do, Depo was horrible, don't want Norplant & sure don't want to insert anything "up there"

Are you nursing? If so this is why no combination pill. The mini pill has all the side affects because it does not contain any estrogen to balance the prog. and help with free testosterone, etc. When I was nursing (trying it anyway) I didn't take anything just used barrier method and when I was done went right back on combination pills. GOod luck!

I'm not nursing, they won't give it to me because my blood pressure is high.

That is definately something to be mindful of. The pill can cause alot of trouble with blood pressure and I know a couple of people who have actually stroked on it. Not a good thing for a young mom! What about adding some herbs in with the mini-pill. I'd get on the alternative med. threads and ask about saw palmetto and vitex. There are some others out there. Also, there is anestrogen creme that may be worth asking about. I have friends who used it post partum with the mini pill and thought it absorbed and helped with their issues, especially the vaginal dryness. It may be worth adding to see if you get another affect.
Good luck! I know this is hard-we all struggle but maybe someone will answer who's in the same boat.

Chris

Hi

((hugs)), i got the mini pill - Noriday a few years back before I got dx with everything, as i can't do the combination pill 'cos of my blood pressure/ weight.

Anyway, my experience was, that I totally lost all periods - but got pms y'know crying, irritable etc every month. I also put on lots of weight, and my bp went up, and i felt really sick every day.

Well, hope this helps, as we're all different, and maybe you'll be ok with it.

Eva

Default minipill

I took a POP for awhile while nursing my baby. I did fine with it I guess. I did notice an increase in some of my symptoms, such as the hair. (Blech!) But others, such as the pimples decreased (yay!). And I did not come down pregnant again on it, so......

Definitely get the BP under control before you go back on regular pills! Dead of a heart attack or stroke is WAY worse than pregnant again!

I took that for a while. I wouldn't say it was bad. I didn't end up getting pregnant either. So my experience wasn't bad.

Thumbs up

I went on it as well soon after pregnancy due to nursing and had no problems. It was actually after I switched to a regular pill that I started with the symptoms of PCOS.
