| Tennis playing cyster! Join Date: May 2001 Location: Alexandria, VA ![]() | I am in the process of joining Gold's Gym. I had a consultation with one of their personal trainers the other day. We did a lot of questionnaire type stuff (to figure out how much I *don't* know!) and took height, weight, body fat, etc. I was really, really impressed, and I am thinking of spending the money to get 12 weeks of sessions with my membership. Has anyone on here ever gone that route? And if so, how did you like it? Did you discuss PCOS with your trainer at all? I'm almost afraid to bring it up because I'm afraid he will just think I am trying to have an excuse or something like that. Thanks! |

If you can afford it, I would say go for it. Not only do they design a workout program especially for you, they also help to keep you motivated. Good luck. |

| SoulCyster #1 Join Date: Nov 2000 Location: Los Angeles, CA ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I've had a trainer twice (I'm I'm getting ready to get another one for boxing...) The last time I had a trainer, I only worked out with him twice a week, but the workout was so tough that I dropped a size and a half in 6 weeks! It was amazing (but it was a TOUGH workout.) At the time I was 'moderately' low carbing. He knew about my pcos, and that's why he trained me harder than his 'regular' clients...he said I'd need it to overcome the syndrome. My other trainer was not so aggressive...I worked out with her 4 to 5 days a week, and my body didn't really change that much. As torturous as the other guy was...RESULTS was what I was looking for. Now I'm kickboxing (not tae-bo, the 'real deal' with heavy bags, gloves, etc) and weight training (and getting ready to throw in some yoga.) I'm probably going to get a boxing trainer once a week. hope this helps! Kat

In fact, a lot of clubs will give you free training every six weeks or so.... So, they design a program for you and you do it for six weeks, and then about the time you start to need something new, they design a new program for you. If you aren't already a member at a gym and you are thinking about joining one, definitely ask about their trainers and whether or not they are included. |

| Tennis playing cyster! Join Date: May 2001 Location: Alexandria, VA ![]() | LauraEE....the Gold's Gym where I am has several different training programs ranging in prices all over the place! They do have a deal where, if I join up with the trainers (who actually aren't a part of Gold's Gym, they are located in there but they are a separate business), I get a reduced membership fee at the gym. I think I am going to do a 12 week program that has 24 sessions with a trainer (2 per week). The trainer I met with is ex Army, *very* muscular, and very honest and straightforward...I'm thinking if anyone can help me whip my butt into shape, he can!!! Plus, when we went through all the questionaire stuff I realized just how much I don't know about working out and nutrition. My sessions are going to include times with a nutritionist, too. They have this forumla that let me know, based on the knowledge I had, that I would only have a 13% chance of reaching my goals. !!!!! Maybe it was a propaganda trick, but it got me thinking! Thanks everyone else for your input, too. I think, even though it will stretch my purse strings for a bit, I am going to do it. It is for me, after all....and I deserve it!!! |

| Registered User | Topaz, I just joined a gym and was wondering if I should have a personal trainer as well. I met with one for my assessment and was impressed, just like you. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find it within my budget to pay for a trainer (I wish it were free). I'm saving to get a place of my own and can't bring myself to risk screwing up my finances. However, once I move, if I can budget it in, I'm definitely going to hire a trainer because you're exactly right...we deserve it ![]() I'm so glad you decided to hire a trainer after all. Good luck! -annegia Last edited by annegia : 05-30-2002 at 06:34 PM. |

| Registered User | I actually have a personal trainer that I have been with for 16 weeks and counting. The training is great & I have learned a lot but I still haven't found it to help me lose weight any faster than if I had joined the gym on my own. |

| Registered User | I once enlisted a trainer for help in highschool. I didn't know then that I had PCOS and could not get my eating under control to make the training beneficial. I ended up quitting as my workouts would make me nauseous. Its been nearly ten years and I'm now turning to a trainer again. The gym at the university I work at does a buddy training thing so that we pay half the price of a normal session. A normal session would be $48 and I will only pay $24. However, I can imagine how fast this would add up. We're talking once a week for 24bux. Imagine an entire 12 week program. Anyway, I should be starting next week, so I will keep you all posted. I'm waiting to hear back with the trainer that is available. I'm hoping for a guy who will crack the whip. ![]()

| John and Matt's Mommy Join Date: Apr 2007 Location: Grand Terrace, California ![]() | I bought a membership for my dh and myself and paid the extra to get 4 personal training sessions incl for each of us. I am on my 4th week and have lost 7 lbs and went from a 16 to a 14- yeah!!! I would definately say it is worth it. He works me hard and knows that I have IR. He has been working me on weight and strength training more since I get really sick with heavy cardio.

| Registered User Join Date: Feb 2008 Location: Canada ![]() | I used a trainer last spring to start up a program along with seeing a nutritionist. I dropped 10 pounds last summer and have kept it off, despite falling off the program after a month. I am going back again to start up another session to get me motivated to work out again and lose another 20-30lbs. I do think it's worth seeing a trainer and it sounds even better that he's going to help you with the nutrition part of losing. My trainer costs about $50/session. I thought the same thing when I got a trainer to set me up with a plan (skeptical). I wasn't able to work out with her but she showed me what I needed to do to efficiently lose weight. |
