I had an ultrasound done a month or two ago (after all my labs came back normal, except for high testosterone) and I have yet to get the results. I called a few weeks ago and the nurse told me over the phone that my doctor would call me. Well... my doc never called. All she told me was that the report read, "Multiple follicles, enlarged ovary". Well TODAY when I called to schedule an appointment since I really need to know what is going on, she tells me, "Oh yeah, you do need to get in. YOu have cysts." Well... does anyone ever worry that PCOS can turn into cancer? Can it even do that? Will the cysts ever shrink and disappear on their own? My appointment is tomorrow but I needed some info and comfort beforehand. I won't be able to sleep until I know something. And I like honesty, no matter how much it may hurt. I'd do research myself but I'm freaking myself out with what I am finding. Please someone respond! |

PCOS itself can't turn into cancer, but if you don't have a menses for an extended period of time and the lining builds up I was told that it COULD start to turn into cancer, not definitely just a higher risk is all. If she didn't mention a bad lining or anything I wouldn't worry to much. You are doing what you can and getting check ups! If you think about it we (those with PCOS) with all the ultrasounds are good at taking preventative measures against it because we are being checked out by drs more than most. Stay calm. You really shouldn't worry much about it unless your doctor mentions it. I wish you the best of luck. I can understand your concern, my dr wants to take a biopsy just because i havent had my period in 2 years as preventative measures, so if you are concerned make sure to talk to the doctor about! Don't be shy to bring it up! Good luck with your appointment. I hope I helped a little. *note* I am just passing on information given to me by my doctor. I do not claim to be a doctor. ![]()

| Registered User | My dr told me the same thing that the above post said. that if the lining builds up it could put you at a higher risk of cancer. Also I asked my dr about the link between PCOS and ovarian cancer and she said that there is NOT an increased chance of getting ovarian cancer just because you have PCOS. I was really worried about that when I was first diagnosed because it runs heavily in my family. Hope this helps ease your fears. |

That being said, I just wanted to let you know that researching those cysts on the internet is probably the easiest way to freak yourself out! In 2006, I found out I had a tumor on my ovary, as a result of several cysts. The tumor had grown so large, it was 13 pounds when it was removed! Thank God it was not cancer! However, in the two weeks before my surgery, I read everything I could on ovarian tumors, and I was scared to death!! Just know that most things you find on the internet are worst case scenario, and more times than not you will be ok! That being said, I also understand why you are so scared, if you need anything let me know! : ) |

Sometimes knowledge can bite you in the bum! Anyway, my appointment was today and she diagnosed PCOS. Apparently the cysts were, and I quote, "...tiny...". Luckily I've had periods so I don't think the lining has been building up (Thank You, Jesus!) so I am very relieved and glad to be taking care of myself!!!
