Question Anyone experience incontinence??

I for the longest time have had a problem with stress incontinence. Every single time that I cough, sneeze or move I leak a little bit of urine out. There are even times whenever I will just be sitting there and I can feel the urine leaking out of me. It has gotten so bad sometimes that I constantly have to wear a pad! If not then I will be soaked. I am going to my regular doctor tomorrow and I am really hoping that she will put me on something. Anyone ever experience anything like this??

Default a slow leak...

Yes ever since I was diag. I have had a serious problem with stress incont.

I believe to be the work of my abdominal region inside could be somewhat swollen due to the condition. And this places pressure on our bladders more and we tend to "leak".. Ive done for many years the Keagle exercise or what ever its called and so I know my muscles in the bladder walls are tight and firm. Its also great for firming up the vaginal track too! Its only when I sneeze, cough or try to stretch out between bathroom trips and have a "too full" state that I run the risk of serious embarassment.

I have found Poise panty shields are great and not at all bulky or uncomfortable. One thing even nicer, my panties stay nice and white!

I have had problems with this since I was a small child. I don't think mine is related to PCOS. I had a couple of operations to close my urethra a little. It didn't do me that much good. Keagle excersises helped me most. It took me until 9th grade maybe 10th to quit peeing on myself everytime I giggled a little. I peed myself on my first date! Talk about embarassing. I managed to keep it hidden, but it still ruined the day.

I always had this problem. My doc prescribed me Detrol La 4mg a day. I am really hoping that this works. She said that if it doesn't then she is going to send me to a urologist. This is way too embarrassing!!

You will get some relief with the Detrol LA.

But you also need to learn the Kegal exersises for more help.

Hang in there, your not alone!

I only experienced this after my pre-dx for PCOS, my first bout with ortho-tricylen. Didn't like the body changes so I quit, and my incontinence left with the prescription.

Angry I to know how you all feel.

I have had problems for years. The Dr has put me on Detrol La a few times a day and it seemed to make my mouth dry, I had to start using eye things to keep my eyes from staying dry ect and I still never noticed a change. I use to be able to go without pads for short times but after my last pregnancy loss in 1995 I have had to go straight to the Poise pads ( thickest I can find). If I get a bad cold with coughing I have to use depend undergarments and sometimes that dont catch it all. I have heard there is a new surgery that has been out for a while where they make a sling type thing with mesh that holds up the bladder to help and it has worker for a lot of people but ofcourse it isnt offered up here. When I went and seen a uroligist he told me if I lost weight I wouldnt have this problem anymore. Its funny because I have friends that are extremely skinny with the same problems.
Good luck to you in finding something that works.

That's what I was told too. If I lost the weight then I wouldn't have the problem but I know thin people that have it. Well, once I lose the weight if I still have the leaking then I am going to go see a urologist. I hate it. I swear it gives off an ammonia smell that is practically impossible to get rid of!!

I had stress incontinence since high school. I did the kegel's, I tried the detrol...no luck. It was such a huge issue that I had surgery in November to have a Monarch urethral sling put in. I was pretty miserable for the first two days, but overall the healing process went quickly and I haven't leaked even the slightest bit since that day. It might seem like a pretty drastic solution, but I haven't really heard of many people having much luck with the alternatives.

Question flamingodncr

How long were you on the detrol before they decided that it wasn't working? Did insurance cover the procedure for the monarch urethral sling? I really feel like i have it so bad that i don't even want to bother with the detrol LA!!! I am ready for this to be over!! Thank you everyone for the responses!

My urologist said that Detrol was mainly meant for urge incontinence, so he didn't really expect it to work. He had me try it for two weeks mostly because the insurance says you have to try that first but also because there is not really much of a ramp up time for the effects to kick in. Of course, it didn't work and he scheduled the surgery. Insurance (Aetna HMO) paid for everthing less the outpatient surgery co pay. Even though the day of the surgery and the day after were hell (or would have been without the percocet...lol), I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

I too have urinary incontinence and have since I was in college (about 7 years now). Dr tried me on Detrol for about 6 weeks but no luck. I have to wear pads all the time too. Luckily, I get by with the ultra thin overnights w/ wings. I know what you mean about the ammonia smell, it's bad....I have to literally shower before being intimate w/ DH...so much for spontaneity. My dr did a test called urodynamics and it showed that the muscles down there were tight and strong and that I did not have an overflow problem. He then referred me to a urologist but I have not gone yet. I have real issues w/ people "messing around down there"....especially men that I dont know. The urodynamics was not that bad though. They catheterized me which I had never had done before but it did not hurt....it was just like I needed to pee real bad. I hope you find relief with the Detrol.

Well, its been two weeks on the Detrol La and so far still having the incontinent problems. I want to just go through and have the surgery. When I go back and see my doc I am going to ask for a urology consult. I am sick of this and so ready to not feel gross anymore. Do you know how many pairs of underwear I ruin? Yuck! Thanks for the support guys! Nice to see that I am not the only one!
