Is anyone familar with Autoimmune Thyroid disease??

When I was diagnosed with PCOS the endocronologist find that I had autoimmune thyroid disease on top of that

, well he didnt give me much information about it AT ALL!! And now im left here to wonder what it is heh, all he told me was that my immune system was attacking my thyroid and it would be destroyed soon. I go back may 3rd to re-test my blood (i have to go in every three months now for bloodwork), well its going to either be hypo or hyper thyroidism . Any information would be greatly appreciated, hope to hear from you soon!!

Autoimmune thyroiditis is the most common type of thyroid disease in women. It's also called Hashimotos. I have it too. My endo just told me it's very common and most women with hypothyroidism, have the autoimmune one.

It's very simple to treat (for most people). I take Synthroid to treat my thyroid.

I have Hashi's as well, and I feel you on the doctor not giving you any info. I was told I had Hashi's when the 2nd biopsy came back from my thyroid nodules.

The only info I have about it is what I have learned from reading different sites on the web. stopthethyroidmadness.com is a pretty good one, there is a book by the same name.

Thanks for all the help.. I just want to be able to stop or at least slow down the process of my thyroid being destroyed.. but my doc just wants me to let it be destroyed and then take meds

Is there even any way to slow down the process?!?!
