For the past two days I've going all day with out make-up. I'm trying to get the courage to go for the whole week... maybe more. Has anyone gone mak up free and seen an improvement in their acne? This has been very scary for me... to go out in public. I hope giving my face some time off from all the covering up will help break the cycle of breaking out, covering up then breaking out some more. grrrrr

Working on getting to my "ideal" weight. Approach: no sugar and weight training. Right now the symptoms of PCOS are being managed by 1500mg of Metformin and Seasonique birth control. My acne is gone (Praise God!) and I feel great as long as I stay away from sugar and dairy (darn metformin).

I know when I took a two week trip with my Dh I spent most of the time with out my makeup on. It did help a little, but I was about ready to start AF (which breaks me out anyways). My skin had cleared up most when I lost weight.
I would be to afaird to go to work with out makeup!! I skin is not even and I look like crap!
What if you left it off all weekend and went out and got some sun on it? That helps mine?

This is a most emphatic reply to your question - ABSOLUTELY YES!!!
And it saves me a fortune, because I've now given up even buying make up!!
To be honest, I hated wearing it anyway, and would grumble to myself every time I applied it, but I felt that my acne was too horrible to leave untended. However, I went on a trip to Europe for a few weeks a few years ago and I didn't take any make-up with me, and my skin improved so much I was amazed.
I haven't worn any make-up since except when I was forced to by my chief bridesmaid when I got married, and then was to reduce the pastiness of my skin not hide spots (I was more spotty for a week afterwards as well!!)

I hardly ever wear make-up anymore. The most I put on is a little powder (to keep that shine down) and some eye make-up... Lipgloss is always a must for me too. I happen to use Physician's Forumla and it works well for me. I used to use their foundation, but I have a hard time with foundation... it makes my skin even more oily then it already is. I don't usually get the little pimples anymore, just the cystic acne that I dunno if I'll ever get rid of... Ugh!

my face is so oily that when i put on makeup it feels like my skin is suffocating. i use powder to sop up the oil but thats it. i'm very comfortable not wearing make-up, though. the only time i wear it is on performance nights (i'm a stage performer).

It's my understanding (and experience ) that cystic acne is the type that is deep under the skin, doesn't come to a white head for a very long time, they are very painful and itchy. Mine mostly occur on the jawline which I'm told is a sign that it is hormonal.

All I know is that I don't get the little pimples anymore... When do break out, its those cyst type blemishes... They're gross, and sometimes painful, and it takes forever for them to heal.
Hope I helped.

I'm still breaking out with new pimples. I do like the new freedom I've found in going without make-up. especially in the summer... I still don't have the clearest complexion, but some people have honestly not noticed that I've been make up free.. others have noticed, but have reassured me ( I asked them to be brutally honest) that I'm not disgusting. Ever since I had a stranger follow me from the grocery store to my car and offer a product that she sells that could help my face and when a cosmetic store flatly refused to sell me anything because my face was so bad I have felt completely ashamed and disgusting. I am liking the new freedom of not having to wear makeup all the time. I think I may wear some again... maybe just a bit of concealer on the really ugly ones, but for now I'm still make-up free. and a little free-er on the inside too.

I like the way it makes me look too. I was just wondering if I was costing my face more grief by wearing it. Each to her own on this issue for sure.
I think it's hard to tell after only a week, but I think I see some improvements for myself. I'm kinda liking the time I save on not putting on so much. and my close friends couldn't tell a difference.... so strangers will likely not care either. It's helped me to ask who am I trying to please anyway. Now, through this experiment I have found that if there is day I just don't feel like putting it on I won't. yippee! That's the freedom I was looking for. I'm going to be starting some herbal stuff that I read on another post so hopefully that will help regulate things on the inside even more. i'm thrilled that I've had 5 ovulating cycles now that I've been on metformin and lost weight! Now I hope to see the acne flare ups not come as often. That would be wonderful!

My skin was never bad til I went off of Diane 35 and got period 3 months later (became REALLY bad with cystic acne - all along jawline and regular zits especially concentrated on forehead for some reason although I don't wear bangs). My skin became SUPER OILY like I've never seen it b4 at that point. Makeup free does help but it depends on what is causing your acne in the first place i would think.
If makeup is what is causing your acne then it will definitely help to go makeup free. If hormones are what is causing it (like in my case) you can go makeup free all you like and still deal with it - what a reality.
There are some acne-fighting concealers on the market now - found in skincare section of drug store at least where i am. Clean & Clear makes one, as does Neutrogena and a few others. They have salycilic (sp) acid in them that helps to dry up pimples. Not sure how effective they are - especially for these t ypes of pimples caused by hormones but i think it is worth a shot......... right?
Of course, Dearheart, there is definitely a sense of inner freedom to be found in becoming confident enough not to feel obligated to put on full face in order to go out in public. I overcame that myself in past few years and have cut down my getting ready time by about 2 hours!!!!!!!!!!!
best to all of you!

For me, not wearing makeup didn't do squat. The ONLY thing that has ever helped was Accutane. I took it 7 years ago and my skin was perfectly clear until about a year ago. I'd go on Accutane again in a heartbeat but I can't because I'm TTC. Maybe in the future I will.
