I was on regular met for almost a year, and then switched to ER. It is much easier on me. My testosterone levels rose a bit compared to regular met, but not too much. Good luck!
I was on 1000mg of Met which I could tolerate, any more than that and it plays havoc with me. However, in Feb my diabetic dr asked me to try increasing it to 1500mg a day. This I did and managed to lower the amount of insulin almost by half and got better sugar control.... BUT... the revenge of the metformin struck and I would spend more time in the bathroom than anywhere else. Have been on the extended release just over a week now, only 1000mg to start with then go back and see my dr in a month and increase. My sugar control has not been as good and I am still spending time in the bathroom but seem to be swinging between diarrhea and constipation now.. I will persevere as I havent been on the slow release that long, but I think I would rather be spending more time in the bathroom than being bunged up....

I was on the regular for several months before switching to ER ... and I found it so much easier since I could take all 3 at once, plus I wasn't running to the bathroom after every meal. Granted - still haffta know where the bathrooms are - it just isn't as ... ummmmm crucial.

I just switched from regular to XR due to not being able to tolerate the side effects any longer. I was so happy when XR became available in Canada! The good news is all of my side effects are gone! Its been much easier to take, and since I was horrible at taking a full dose during the day its easier for me to take 1 larger XR dose. So far I haven't noticed any other differences regarding the way it works. Its still early on in the switch for me though.
