Question Anyone got PROGESTERONE (like Prometrium) prescribed in the UK?

Hello girls, I was wondering if anyone has had bio-identical or micronized progesterone (in pills, suppositories or cream) prescribed under the NHS in the UK. And if so, what was the name/mg of the medication?

I am TTC and was given Provera to induce my periods by hospital consultant (whom I'll only see again end Jan to then start Clomid). I never used the Provera as got my periods naturally and this month I seem to have ovulated.

I have low progesterone and asked my GP yesterday to be given Prometrium or something similar to support my progesterone levels should I be pregnant. I was told by GP she did not know what Prometrium is and to use the Provera, that it was safe until 12 weeks pregnant... I asked for a blood test to check my progesterone level at 8 DPO this month, and will see her again next week to get results. She said she will look into what Prometrium is and if can be given under NHS.

Would be very helpful to know what other ladies in the UK got given, thank you Maria x

Yes my consultant gave me cyclogest pessaries when I had to see him due to my recent loss. He has said there is no guarantee that they work but next time he has given me them in advance so that I take them from the moment I get pregnant and not 2 weeks in.

I see my guy privately (Andy Pickersgill) he is very clued up on fertility noticed you are in Oldham he practices in Cheadle.

Thank you for your reply and very sorry to hear about your loss!

Are the Cyclogest Pessaries capsules you can take vaginally? Can I ask what mg you were given, just to have an idea? Is it 200mg like for Prometrium?

I have had a look at your consultant, it seems he practices:
- under the NHS Stepping Hill Hospital, Stockport, and
privately in
- Cheadle, BMI The Alexandra Hospital
- Manchester, Bridgewater Hospital
- Stockport, Highfield House, and
- Macclesfield, Spire Regency Hospital

I just put this on here for anyone else who may read this and be interested in using him as a consultant, and for my future reference. Unfortunately I have already been referred to a specialist under the NHS and chose Oldham Royal Hospital... but I think I could have chosen Stepping Hill Stockport and I don;t think I could change now.

Can I please ask you how much a private consultation costs, and ho many visits you need to do, or is there a "package" price for all the visits and tests? It would be useful to know if let's say in 6 months I still am not pregnant through the NHS.

Many thanks

The vaginal pessaries are 200mg

It is not too late to be referred to SHill your gp could change it for you. Word of warning his nhs lists are long the best way is to see him privately 1st consultation is £200 then he would put you on his nhs lists. I had a problem with my insurers when I needed my last endo surgery and he did this for me. It also all depends on what he needs to do for you best thing would be to go and see him. If you want his secretary's no let me know and I will pm you
