Anyone had any luck with controlled crynig at night??
Mackenzie is almost 5 months old and I am getting sick of people asking me if he is sleeping throug yet and then telling me what I should be doing with him when I tell them he still has a 2am feed. He is breastfed and has solids b'fast and dinner. I have started the controlled crying thing (1.5hours last night) and I hate it. I did it during the day and it worked beautifully but it tears my heart out at night for some reason. I feel I am only doing it because everyone around me seems to be stressing about it. I am thinking of waiting till he does it himself - but at what age do I draw the line??? I don't mind getting up to him as he feeds for 10-15minutes and straight back to sleep. Help.

It sounds like you are doing a great job. I breastfed both my girls DD#1 for 16 months & DD#2 for 9 months. And yes, there was ALWAYS (the damn know-it-alls) who said "what a 2am feed!".
But, if he wakes up, feeds and is back to sleep quickly - don't stress out about it. It will stop when it needs too.
Don't worry about what other people think - it's not their baby. Do what is right for YOU and YOUR baby. How about joining Aust Breastfeeding Assoc. They'll have all the answers you need and plenty of people to support you. There's no guarantee that stopping the night-time feed will help the baby sleep through anyway. You say you "don't mind getting up to him as he feeds for 10-15minutes and straight back to sleep" so why not continue with that. It's good for both of you. If he was still feeding many times each night and neither of you were getting much sleep, that would be a different matter and you'd need to do something for sanity's sake.

Thanks guys, I decided today that I am going to keep getting up to Mackenzie for now as it doesn't bother me and the crying does. As for the people who have been annoying me, next time they ask, I will just tell them that he is sleeping through. This might make them feel better and then maybe they can move on to someone else to annoy!!

Sounds like a good plan to me.

Mackenzie decided to sleep through last night!!! He must have caught my vibes - ha ha. I realize this is probably a once off but it's a start. Thanks Mandi-Lou - we think he is pretty cool too. There is hardly ever a time when he doesn't have a smile that big on his face (except for 2am when I don't feed him). We are very lucky parents.
