I had an endometrial biopsy two years ago. I almost didn't reply because I didn't want to scare you, but I did want you to be aware of how it *could* feel, and how it did for me. I know that there are other women who have had this procedure done and it wasn't like this for them, so please don't take what I say for gospel! The procedure was very quick, which was good, but for me was extremely painful and I honestly was a second from passing out, but it passed quickly. I had minor cramping for an hour or so afterwards and then I was fine. Like I said, as she did the biopsy, it hurt, but that was only a few seconds! This way, you can be prepared for it in case it is painful for you and you won't be taken by surprise like I was. I hope it's not painful for you though!
Good luck hon!

I'll be able to tell you next weekend what it's like. I have one scheduled for next Friday, August 26th. I'm not looking forward to it either. I've asked around...and some people say it's the same as a pap smear....some say it's a bit worse. I'm hoping it isn't too bad. If I forget, send me a message next weekend, and I'll let you know how it went!

I had to have one, and like Sweetums said it is a little painful for for a few moments. I had some cramping afterward, but was okay. I suggets maybe taking some advil before. That is what my doctor suggested to me. Hope all goes well.

I didn't know I was going to have the procedure done until 30 seconds before she did it, so I think that is a great idea! Since you know ahead of time you are having it done, you can plan for it! You will do fine! Don't stress about it!

I just felt really crampy when it was being done and mildly crampy for a few minutes afterwards.
Don't be too worried about it. Just make sure you take some advil before you go and you should be fine.

My Mood: Points: 77,554.14 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 77,554.14 | I had one and it wasn't bad at all. I took a prescription strength Motrin (equivalent to 4 Advil I think) and I guess it helped. It was a little uncomfortable for a few minutes, but the it was over. I would say that it was a little worse than a pap for me. I know everyone's experiences are different. I didn't find my HSG painful either, but some people say it was the worst thing they ever went through.
Good luck and I'm sure it'll be fine. Do some deep breathing during the procedure to take your mind off the pain.

It wasn't like any cramp that I have ever had, it was worse. The pain only lasts for about 20 seconds though. I did go home from work because I was getting bad pains afterward.

My stupid GYN just said, "ok, let's do one" as she was doing her "routine" things. I was totally caught off guard and I think part of the problem was that I was so tense from not knowing what was going to happen.

Points: 459.00 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 459.00 | Why they do this biopsy Good luck to you with the biopsy. If you have a low tolerance to pain, take PERSCRIPTION strength Motrin before the procedure. It will be over in a flash, and that's all I'm going to say about it.
The reason they do this is to see where your levels are - to see if your cycle is in sync with your ovulation. The technical word for this is the Lunar phase of your cycle. Mine was off, so then I got the label of having a lunar defect (hope I'm spelling lunar right for this). Lunar may be something like Lunear?? Sorry if I'm mis-spelling this. They sometimes want to do more than one biopsy to make sure the levels are accurate.
I wish you all the luck in the world... and remember, it only lasts for a few seconds (20-30).
Great question!

Points: 770.00 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 770.00 | Had my endo biopsy yesterday... It wasn't fun, but it wasn't too bad either. I took three advil about 40 minutes before the procedure, so that helped. During the procedure it was uncomfortable, made me clinch my fists and teeth a little, but it was over quick. They had to do 3 passes thru the uterus (instead of just one or two) to get enough tissue for the biopsy. So by the 3rd pass I was ready for it to be over. But even with 3 passes, it only took maybe 5 minutes. For about 20 minutes after the procedure I had cramping (like bad menstral cramps), then they began to ease up. About 40 minutes after the procedure I was fine. So, the antisipation and worry were definately worse than the procedure was in reality. One thing they didn't tell me, is that right before the procedure they want a urine sample to run a quick pregnancy test. I had stopped in the restroom before gettting on the elavator to go up to my Dr.'s office...so I had to drink a bottle of water and wait a few minutes before I could give them anything! *lol*
So, now I just have to wait for the results. From what I hear, it takes 7-10 days. So, hopefully by the end of the week or the beginning of next week I'll know if everything is ok.

Points: 515.47 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 515.47 | I had my first a week ago. Dr gave me Advil right after but I dont think I would've needed it because the pain was gone by the time I was dressed. The pain was similar to localized cramps but it only lasted 5 -10 minutes. She said I would spot during the day but all that came out was the stuff they use to disinfect the cervix. (Pap smear pain is more sharp than this pain.)
Why do one? Mine was to determine if I have a "Luteal Phase Defect". A blood sample was also taken to measure progesterone level and an ultrasound was performed to check the uterine lining. Doctor wants all 3 tests to agree with the cycle day (in my case CD21).
Am still waiting for my results.

I had one in July, and I do have to say it hurts. My in-laws came in the same day and I really did not have a chance to take any pain pills after they got here. I would say if you can have somebody with you it will make it easier. My RE said no sex from cd1 until after the biopsy which basically meant the whole month because I bled for about three-four days after the procedure - almost spotting and not quite a full AF. Then a few days later AF showed. Also, they do it after you ovulate so your cervix is so tight. I think that is what makes it uncomfortable - putting the catheter through a closed cervix.
Good luck to you. The pain only lasts during the procedure. And don't get worked up about it (yeah, right!)
