Default Anyone had ovarian resection/drilling TWICE????

Has anyone had an ovarian wedge resection or ovarian drilling done twice?

I had one several yrs. ago & had my pd basically the same day every month for years. Recently I was given lupron injections for 6 months & now I am full of cysts & back at square one. Provera & PCOS symptoms make it Extremely hard for me to just Live. I would like another surgery so I can move on w/ my life. I'm not worried about scarring/adhesions.

I wanted to know if anyone had either surgery done twice or (even one of each) & what was the outcome?

nope, I actually didnt know this surgery was still being done in the states. I am in the medical field and they talked about it in school, it sounds effective, but I think they stopped b/c of the scarring. I didnt have PCOS at the time, or didnt know I had it so I dont remember everything they said about it, but I remember thinking, if it works, why did they stop doing it. I hope you find some answers on this board.

Actually one reason they stopped doing it, I think, is because the results don't always last. I guess in a way you can think of it like going to the dentist and having the tarter scraped off your teeth... teeth look/feel great for a while but the tarter will come back.

This seems like a pretty stupid reason not to do it, to me, since the alternative of fertility treatments isn't exactly long lasting either. With drilling you can have results for years but with drugs you get results for one month.

The scarring/adhesion risk is another factor but supposedly the risk with laproscopic (sp) drilling is way less than when they actually cut you open, remove a chunk, and sew the ovary back together.

Anyway short answer is yes, sometimes it needs re-done. Never had it done, personally, but it is something I may ask about some day. Met alone didn't do much for me, I never want to do fertility treatments again, I want one more kid but want my body to work right just as much - drilling seems like a good solution. I wish it hadn't fallen out of favor. Seems like perfecting it would help a lot more women than the fertility drugs.

i haven't had it done twice, but i did have it done back in 06. it only helped me regulate my cycles for about 4 months before i was back to square one. there are some people however that have tremendous success with it. good luck in whatever you decide!

Well I found a dr. who said he would do ovarian drilling & remove any scar tissue or adhesions from my previous surgery & will check my tubes & uterus for damage from the first surgery I had. But I'm a little worried that the drilling might not work as well as the wedge resection...maybe I should just let it go & try the drilling -But I Know the resection worked for years. There's another dr. that prob still does the resection, but maybe I should just trust this one.... ? I'm not sure what to do now. Lol! I know I worry waay too much!

Just wanted to say THANKS! for your responses & supporting me in my decision. I appreciate it.

I heard about this a few years ago but really wasn't to sure about it.
I was just wondering how it helps with PCOS?

my understanding from school was that the ovary gets a thick shell on it from the extra estrogen and the eggs cant pop out of the ovary, causing all the cysts. Once you shave off some of the top layers of the ovaries the eggs can finally escape.
