i have that wonderful sideburn, the goatee, the beard into the throat, the mustache above and below my chin, and even hair on my actual cheeks. and i have black hair! the hair on my chin is thick, really thick. wax doesn't even grip it sometimes-even if it's long enough. the sideburns get long and curly. if i bleach, you can still see them in the light. plus, they don't all get blonde from it either. if i shave, you can still see the spots where i shaved and plus it grows back so quickly. and it makes me feel like a guy and i'm a girl! i've done electrolysis on my upper lip in the past and it really hurt and will cost me a lot now. i gotta save up when i'm all settled into my (i'm recently out of grad school). i did laser too all over my face. problem with that was that i couldn't bleach, thread, or wax during that time and shaving really doesn't do a great job of getting rid of the hair for me like i mentioned. plus, i did 5 treatments when the doctor said i would need only 4. after the 5th, i asked about it and that's when he said it could take up to 20 treatments and i just couldn't afford that. that was about 2 years ago and now my hair is a lot worse than it was before i went in for the laser. i'm finally going to see an endocrinologist and get on some meds to see if they will help.
Please let me know if any kind of medication helps you!
I have the same type of hair problem. i take spironolactone and use the vaniqa creme but neither seems to be helping much.
I shave every other day. It's a struggle for me, because shaving my face makes me feel very "unwomanly" but I can't afford laser treatments right now because of school.
I think the hardest bit is how shaving the face is always shown as very much a "male only" thing. It's crazy, because a very significant proportion of women do actually shave their face. I think it's a lot easier -- both actually and psychologically -- to use a men's-type electric razor. Although the top-end models are better, you can get 90% of the performance of the best models specially designed for the face from the little Philips Norelco battery model. Seems to retail at anything from $6 to $25 -- which compared to the top-end models at $400 is a real bargain. Also, the fact that it's a two-head model (as opposed to three heads on the others) makes it a lot more suitable for the average woman's face. A search on "PHILIPS Norelco CORDLESS Travel RAZOR" turned up lots of suppliers.
Yep, I have those problem areas too. I had laser treatments for over a year, and it did not help. I think you really need to have your hormones in control before you spend your money on this. I use my husband's razor when it gets bad on the sides and a tweezer for the really dark hairs. However, I shave as little as possible because it tends to break me out more! Ah, the un-ending cycle!!
Yep I'll join the club! I have awful hairy sideburns and my hair is dark brown! I try to wax every 3 weeks, along with my upperlip. But when I'm lazy and need a quick fix I shave my upper lip.
I also pluck my "whiskers" out every few days. I've gotten to the point that I have to carry tweezers in my handbag just incase I spot a stray whisker while I'm out shopping.
I have a full beard from sideburn to side burn, i have to tweeze everyday...I hate it..I have horrible anxiety because I cant look people in the face because I think they can see my beard or mustache...I even have hair on my boobs..sometimes I think it would just be easier to end it all, but then I pull myself together and know that god will pull me through this difficult time..Oh Lord I hope so because it is not fair to put us women throught this kind of hell, I cant have children and I'm a hairy beast, what man would want me? I think thats the reason I've started dating women they are much more understanding and compassionate..sorry to ramble but I have alot on my chest
Strange, I've found that it's the men who know that I have male-type moustache and beard growth who have been nicest about it and the women who tumble to the fact who have been horrible. Lots of us here have husbands who haven't been in the least put off by our facial hair. And yes, my (now) husband knew from the day he met me that (I was 19 then) I had moustache growth like a male and hairier legs than most males. He's always thought of my moustache growth in a positive light ( he says it's what convinced him I must be a lot older than my almost-totally flat chest suggested) and he's been every bit as positive about my beard growth since that developed. We enjoy shaving together (men's-type electric razors) in the morning -- it's something most couples can't share together in). I think you're probably far to quick in writing off the men. Surely there are plenty other men out there who think like our husbands do?
Yes I have this prob, it was one of the first signs my doc noticed when i was talking to her about PCOS. It's very common and I'm leaving the sideburn hair alone, but I do tweeze the chinhairs. it's annoying yet another reason I love PCOS so much lol. Hope this helps!

I have had to deal with this since I was 15 years old. Shaving everyday (and sometimes twice a day) has destroyed my skin. I went for one laser treatment and it did nothing so I got discouraged. But last month I decided to try again at another place. She gave me a fantastic deal ($130 per session which includes cheeks, upper lip, chin, and under chin). Its been just over three weeks and I can see a huge difference. I still have to shave every day but no where near the same amount. I go again in one week and I can't wait. No more 5 o'clock shadow, no more razor burn or missed spots, no more sneaking around with a razor or not letting a guy touch my face when he kisses me.....To say this will change my life is an understatement

I know some ladies have problems waxing- they say that their hair is too coarse to be pulled out, or that they can't let it get that long. But I remember how terrible it was to have to shave all of the time and now it is SO MUCH BETTER b/c I toughed it out, let it grow, and waxed, and use Vaniqa.
I am considering epilating, too- has anyone on here used one?

Waxing can work OK when the growth is fine and not seriously hormonally-driven. For those of us who have moustache and beard growth of more-or-less male proportions, the growth is just too coarse for waxing.
Thanks..for the advice and encouragement..i really would love to meet a nice person who could love me for me and im not totally writing off men, but i would consider myself an equal opportunity lover, and I know i deserve the best, and if I ever want a child its going to be with artificial means so i know im going to have to surround myself with better people and options. I was having a bad day but some are better than others...it's just so hard dealing with all of these obstacles just to get out the door and look like a NORMAL female..i'm sure alot of women here can relate to that..and about this laser hair removal crap..IT DONT WORK!!!!!!!..I spent well over a thousand dollars on it and my face is scarred up and hairier than ever!!!!

It can work for some women. But it's generally not going to work for women whose testosterone is more or less at male levels and whose skin has been sensitized to respond to testosterone. So for those of us who are in the latter category, shaving's usually the least-unsatisfactory answer.
you guys give me strength. i feel like i can deal with the balding if you guys can deal with having to shave on a daily basis.
Shaving every day isn't nearly as bad as it sounds -- especially with a proper men's-style electric razor. It takes less time than brushing one's teeth!
