My Mood:  Points: 5,224.63 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 5,224.63 |  Anyone have extremely high DHEA?
My Endocrinologist hasn't really seen such high DHEA before. My MD was puzzled too. My testosterone is high enough to make me agressively wanting sex, but does anyone have high DHEA and know what it does to create any 'maleness'?
My DHEA was super high but I can't remember the count. Let me know if you have this and what your doctor said about it. |

Hi there. When I had blood work done, it was only my DHEA that was high. My doctor never really said anything about it. She diagnosed me with PCOS right then, though, because of the high DHEA and my other symptoms, although my other bloodwork came out normal. Sorry I can't really help with your question!

I have high DHEA.
From what I understand from research (since no one's really explained anything about DHEA to me in person...), DHEA is kind of a sex hormone precursor. It can become estrogen or testosterone. I'm guessing in us PCOS gals, it usually becomes testosterone, lol. | |

Seems to have a lot of information. I am getting my BW done soon and DHEA is one of them, I'll repost with the numbers and what the Dr says if anything. I'll also asked for maybe a dumbed down version. I'm bad with medical anything.

i believe mine was "off the charts" at 2435! i think it can cause the hair/skin issues that are symptomatic of pcos like being a hairy beast such as myself, acne, and hair loss. grrrrr....guess that explains why i can make a rug jealous with my furriness, lol.

I'm so happy to hear someone else bring up the subject of DHEA! I did some adrenal/cortisol testing via a 12-hour saliva test that I purchased online. My DHEA-S level came back lower than what is considered to be normal for my age group. And, yet, despite taking 2000mg Metformin, I continue to have problems with an elevated testosterone level. I was told that DHEA is a hormone precursor... So, if my DHEA level is low, shouldn't my testosterone level be low, as well? Can anyone help explain this to me? Thanks! | |

So what is considered "really high"? The doctor treating me is an internal medicine doctor. I am very comfortable with her- she seems very knowledgeable. I have also gotten a second opinion from another doctor and all seems to being treated well I guess. Anyways, my DHEAS I believe was 470 and she said it was among the highest she has seem...are the rest of you higher than that? | |

OH- and my DHEAS is high, but my testosterone level is normal...it was explained to me that it is PRECURSOR testosterone- NOT testosterone- 2 different things. It could end up being a high estrogen level even...I am thoroughly confused as well and would love to know exactly what it all means. Actually, all of my levels were normal except cholesterol and DHEAS. | |

That Wiki article SunsetMuse posted above says that cholesterol is converted to DHEA. Your DHEA-S level is high; is your cholesterol also high? | |
