Default Anyone have heavy bleeding with Mirena?

I got Mirena in on Wed, 9/4 - almost two weeks ago. I have been bleeding on and off for most of the summer thanks to my PCOS. (This was my first "AF" since I got pg with my DS in Jan 06.) My m/w, doctor and I all decided Mirena would be a good option for me.

When I went in to get Mirena, I was bleeding lightly. I bled a little heavier that day, but then the bleeding went away almost entirely and I was just spotting. Until this last Wed or Thur. Suddenly, I'm bleeding as heavily as I was in the beginning of my monster AF, which is to say filling overnight pads in a couple of hours. I'm also passing large clots regularly. And I'm cramping quite a bit, which I actually haven't been doing with all my previous bleeding.

I'm calling tomorrow to talk to my m/w, but I'd like to know if other PCOSers have experienced this heavy bleeding after Mirena insertion. I would think that with the hormone support, this wouldn't be happening. But I never have any idea what to consider normal when it regards menstruation and me.

Thanks for any input!

I've had the Mirena for 2 months now. Spotted only a little after the insertion then nothing for like 2 weeks. Then I got AF. The flow was really light but I never stopped spotting. I've spotting now for a month and I believe I got AF again now. No cramping to speak of.

The clots sound scary. Cramping I think is normal since you just got it in.

I hope it sorts itself out. Good luck.

I had no period at all for the first 3 months, then boom, bleeding for the next 6 months constantly. I had that thing removed. I'm not anti-Mirena. I liked it when I didn't have my period, I just wish it would have worked better for me.

They told me to expect irregular bleeding for the first 3-6 months. This could be what is happening with you. If you are concerned then I would definately seek the docs advice. As for me, my experience has been similar to CurlyChica's. I have spotted every once in a while but it was usually around af time. No bleeds as big as af used to be. Just spotting. Please keep us updated if you call your doc.
