Lightbulb Anyone have high prolactin levels?

I did a search before I decided to post this question, however I wasn't able to find anything on it here.

Apparently I have a high prolactin level. The doctor told me that it could be a tumor on the pituitary gland, and wants me to have a MRI done as soon as possible. I was just curious if this may be common in PCOS'ers or not.

I had only a slightly elevated prolactin level but since all my other levels were normal my doc ordered an ultrasound. That is when they found my cysts & diagnosed me. He said that normally with PCOS the prolactin level would be VERY high... mine was only slightly elevated but he checked it out anyway. So, yes, according to my doc a high level of prolactin would actually be an indicator of PCOS. He actually wants to retest me just to make sure b/c he would have expected my level to be much higher.

Hope this helps! Good luck with the MRI if you have it!

what is your prolactin level?.It is common to have hyperprolactinemia with PCOS.When i first ran lab tests ,i had high prolactin level 63,when i repeated the test it dropped to 48.Doctor put me on Dostinex 2 pills. He told me that tumors more likley to be with higher levels as 200..etc . Even if there is pit tumor ,it is treated medically with the same drugs....good luck honey

The first time they ran the test it was 50.3 and the second time (a day later) it was 60.3. When I asked the nurse what this could be, she did mention hyperprolactinemia. They gave me Parlodel to help with the levels, and then wants me to have another lab draw in a few weeks.

Dont worry from that level ...Parlodel will help it goes down ..
You may need to know that there are other causes that may increase prolactin as:stress, sexual intercourse, some medicines..
Good luck in your next test
