I am in my first medicate cycle since my back to back m/cs. After all the bloodwork and procedures I could ask for, we havent found a reason why I m/c early with BETAs only reaching 14 or so. So back to the drawing board.
Anyways- I am thinking of requesting Metformin, even though I am not IR. Anyone else have luck staying pg while on Metformin, but not before Met?
Also, when in your cycle should you start Met?
Thanks!

I had to use Met to get pg, so I don't know what would have happened if I had never taken it. But with my 1st pg, after seeing a strong heartbeat, my doc told me to stop taking the Met. My baby stopped growing just days after I stopped the meds, and I had a natural m/c 3.5 weeks later.
With my 2nd pg, my doc had me stay on Met, and I carried to term and now have a healthy boy.
That first loss might have been a coincidence, but I don't think so. The timing was too exact, esp. since my doc put my chances of m/c at only 2-3%after seeing the heartbeat. I will never again let my doctor to convince me to stop taking the Met while I am pregnant. I am convinced that's why I was able to carry to term.
Misty - I think trying the Met is a good idea. I just started it in the middle of a cycle last May. Warning: start slowly and build up your dosage, or start taking it on a day when you don't have errands to run or any places to go! I had a few mad dashes to the bathroom the day I started it and had to cancel all my plans! The next day I took Immodium A/D with it and from there on out, it was smooth sailing.
Thanks girls. I called the doc this morning to get my sonohystogram results and talk about Met. He wont be in all week!! Im very frustrated because I would like to start Met now before I Ovulate!! EERRR doctors!!
Meagan- Did you start Met the month you go your BFP? Did you stay on Met through your pg?
Im getting O pains today, so Im hoping thats a good sign!

I started the Met in late May 2004 and got the BFP on July 5, 2004 - O'd around June 18 or 19th, even after an appendectomy on June 13th!
I did NOT stay on Met through that pregnancy (that lasted 10 weeks) - but it's likely that I lost that pregnancy due to antiphospholipid antibody syndrome, NOT b/c of stopping Met. WIth Pregnancies 2 and 3, I stayed on Met and lost them both at 4.5 weeks, or 18 DPO.
Im just wondering what affects Met has on Pg. There seems to be a lot of infomration on the web about and its peaking my interest now that all my other tests came back normal.
Misty - I'm going to look around the met board to see what information I can find about met sustaining a pg. Was that where you found a lot of the information or was it on internet searches? I'm curious about asking my dr if I could start met as well if it might give me a better chance to carry to term.

I have been pg two times without and one time with...first one I had a boy and had no real symptoms of pcos at the time, I was 23. Second one m/c and then my symptoms got really bad like almost overnight. Then the third one I got pg while on Met (and 5th cycle of clomid). I stayed on it the entire first trimester to prevent another m/c. I felt great, all of my pcos symptoms were gone and everything was great. After I stopped it I was fine too, a little bit of break outs but they went away. Anyway, I was not IR at the time and it helped me, so I say it is worth a try. Good luck...oh and I started it at the beginning of a cycle but I don't think it matters too much. If you can, get on it before you O like you said.

Well my local PA Rx it to me. we are starting out at 500mg/day for week one. then up to 1000mg/day week 2. We might go up to 1500 if I get adjust to the first doses. I feel better now. I would hate to get pg again and m/c just to have to think WHAT IF... like I dont already have enough of those right!
Thanks girls. I really appreciate it!

I'm glad to hear your doctor agreed to put you on it. I know some doctors refuse to listen to us. I've got a great ob/gyn who listens to me too. Are you taking the ER/XR or the regular? I'm on 1500 mg ER. I take 1 500mg pill in the am and 2 at night. When I first started taking it I was taking the regular and my side effects were worse. Goodluck! With the met and with you cycle!

Im on the regular Met. Last night I took my first pill with dinner. Everything is ok so far. My tummy rumbled a few times and I was like HERE IT COMES. But nope, notta. Just gas I guess. If I dont have any s/e after my third day I may up it to 1000mg and stay there a while.
Thanks girls! You all are the best!
