My daughter was diagnosed at 15 (now 16) because I insisted that gyn test her. I first noticed her af were very irregular, sudden weight gain(especially in tummy), and she had developed male type muscle in arms, chest, and thighs. She is a cheerleader and very active but this was different type of muscle. Her testosterone was 69 and free was 11.4.
Anyone else with increased muscle. Met has helped regulate af, and brought some numbers down. She is also IR.
Would also love to hear from moms trying to help young daughters.
Yes, I have that issue. My thighs are super strong. My chest and shoulders are very broad. I used to be a swimmer, and swimming and diving everyday caused the huge chest, shoulders, arms, and thighs.

You should talk to her doctor about this, but it's probably due specifically to the activity she's doing. Some is probably due to genetics (and the activity she's doing), and some might be from androgens (and the activity she's doing.)

Before PCOS was even realized, I did a lot of weight lifting in school. It was the only physical activity that I excelled in (I cannot do ANYTHING else!!). I pretty much threw myself into lifting weights and was the "lifter-girl" in HS. Now that I think about it, having a higher amount of testosterone probably was what did it. (I still max out the same amount as my sister's boyfriend- he was humiliated...)
Cheerleading is a pretty active sport, so I wouldn't be surprised if she developed some "manly" muscles!
Thanks for the input, she has lost some of the mass on met (1 year now). I have read all the threads and have not seen anyone mention muscle. This was my first indication that something was going on with her hormones. Although cheerleading is strenuous at times, she was bulking up like a body builder.
I was just curious if anyone else had this experience, I think it was from high testosterone. She had blood work last week, results this week, and it should be interesting.

Testosterone alone won't cause a woman to "bulk up like a bodybuilder". It doesn't even cause body builders to "bulk up like a bodybuilder". It's the combination of testosterone AND physical activity.
Even in the absence of excess androgens, some people (men and women) are genetically proned to develop in certain ways, and some activities also cause this. Look at world class gymnasts...they frequently have stereotypical 'masculine' musculature due to the amount of upper body work they do.
