Anyone have a pre-op leg u/s?

I have done all the regular stuff on my doc programs checklist, just waiting for the psych lady to turn in my approval through them. Today I got a call from my coordinator telling me that she finally got my chart back from the surgeons (they had it for something like 6 or more weeks) and that they want me to have a leg u/s done before I can have the surgery. I am trying to figure out what they might be looking for on it. I do have Factor V Leiden which is a higher possibility of blood clotting, and I have had problems in the past with a nerve cutting off feeling in my outer thigh when I would lay a certain way. I should have asked the coordinator if she knew the specific reason, but I didn't think to until I hung up and it took long enough to get her to call me back this time, so I know she is so behind from the holidays that it isn't worth leaving another message and possibly waiting as long as it will take to get the test done just to find out LOL.
Has anyone else ever had this ordered? I would love to hear about it.

Well, looks like I have time to find out about it and that this will put my surgery off until at least sometime in February because the radiology dept. said the earliest appt. they had was on the 26th

Leg u/s are common practice for any surgery when dealing with obesity because of the high risk of blood clotting and pulmonary embolis. Adding in the higher risk factors that you have had in the past, it makes sense they would want to make sure there is nothing starting to form in your legs that may be harmful to you during surgery.

I didn't have to have a leg u/s but did have to have an abdominal u/s to check for liver size and gallbladder status. It sounds like TM answered your question very well about the reasoning for your leg u/s. My guess was the same as hers. Good luck getting your new surgery date! Are you getting lapband or RNY or one of the others?

I am wanting the sleeve gastrectomy. Thanks everyone who helped with this. I have it on Monday and can then see where we are at on the surgery.
