Default Anyone Have Problem Metformin

As mentioned in my other post I have bad side effects with all the the pills I have tried so I am now considering the metformin, I just want to hear about peoples experiences good or bad so if I do start taking the metformin it is an informed choice.

thanx heaps

Rachel

Metformin is pretty good as far as side effects goes-most people get diarrhea, so start off on a low dose. I got severe cramping and diarrhea. This usually goes away. Also, i think you should get your liver tested every so often. Some other people mention nausea, or lightheadedness if they don't eat enough. But it is a very good drug to help with insulin and pcos.

hey smokes thanx for your reply I have started on the lowest dose of metformin but I had what you could say was a bad day but I am going to give it another go as I think the diarrhea I got was due more to a virus than the tablets but I have stopped taked the met for a week to get the virus out of my system and hope for me that it was that virus going round that caused the problem

I wanted to give you a suggestion that seemed to help me with the gas/cramping-I took a "beano" pill for gas, and it really seemed to help with the cramping. I just ate one with a meal. Hope you feel better!

I think that Metformin would be a good thing. I have been on 1,000 mg a day for 3 months and I have had no side effects. But everyone is different. My doctor told me that it is hard to find another med. that works like this one. Hope this helps!!

I've been on Met since Nov 03 and I've rarely had side effects. I had just a bit of nasea and the rest but it ususally was only when taken with other medications or foods like Lettuce (go figure). I'm now up to 1000 per day and doing fine. If I take it right after dinner and the rest of my meds, vitamins at bedtime I'm fine.

Thanx smokes I am unsure what a beano tablet is but I am sure if I ask the chemist we would have the equivelent here. I have been taking the met one after every meal and it is 500mg each tab I think would have to check to be certain but I am sure it is though.

I was going to start the met again on friday night but it completely slipped my mind so I am unsure whether or not I am going to start agian tonight or whether I am going to leave it for a week, just don't want to have another embarassing accident at work so i figure if it is going to play up on me it is going to start before the weekend is out, but I could be wrong I usually am if I was right all the time I'd have all this crap worked out.

re: side effects with met- I am on 2250 mg (started with 1000 first couple of days, then did 1500 for several months, was switched to 2250 a month ago), and have not had a single side effect. I hope the same will be true for you.
