i hope you can find something for yours.
I have scalp psoriasis.
What's FINALLY working for me, after suffering with it for 2-3 years, is limiting my starchy food intake. My dermatologist told me scalp psoriasis is linked to yeast. And since us PCOS sufferers are more prone to yeast than a normal person, it thrives in our bodies. So I've limited my starchy food intake, which includes, potatoes, breads, pastas, chips.
Also, I've tried different shampoo and the only thing that has worked was some medicated shampoo my dr prescribed me. It's called Salex. It's 3% salicylic acid shampoo. However, even with my insurance, it's a $50 bottle.
But I did find an OTC alternative. It's called Dermarest. It's a 3% salicylic acid shampoo as well. It's cleared my flakes up considerably. I work it into my scalp real good and let it sit in my hair for about 5-10 minutes and then I rinse it out.
I also make sure I dry my hair as well, making extra certain I dry my scalp well. Yeast love moist environments, so if I can eliminate any yeast-friendly areas from my body, then it just betters my chances of eliminating it completely from my body.
The reason for the salicylic acid is because it helps thin the flakes and helps them slough off easier without pulling hair with it. Also, when flakes do come off, it helps reduce redness, swelling, and weeping.
After the psoriasis is cleared up on the head, it's best to go with Organic shampoo. I've talked with other PCOSers who have scalp psoriasis, and they all say to stop using traditional shampoo and use Organic.
Thanks that does help alot. For me the hardest part is it itching. I want to dig at it all the time and I havent found a way to stop this yet. Also I know part of the reason I still have it is because of the digging. I do it alot out of nerves. Is it something that ever really goes away if left alone or does it always need to be treated?
For me, I've noticed that if I left it alone, it just accumulated. That's if I was using regular shampoo, like Suave or Herbal Essences. Since I put my hair in a ponytail 99% of the time, when I run my fingers through my hair to adjust the ponytail, I can feel the mounds of accumulated flakes/scales. Then I just have this obsession to get it off my head. Plus, I dig and pick just out of habit sometimes, because I've had it for so long that I don't realize I'm doing it half the time.
Now, with the Dermarest, if you really dig in and scrub your scalp hard with this shampoo to help get it underneath the flakes, then let it sit for a few minutes and let it work it's magic, I've found it relieves some of the itching and there really isn't much to pick off the scalp. Whatever can be picked off the scalp, it usually sloughs right off with little effort. And it doesn't take a bunch of hair with it.
Hello, I have read carefully the blog posts, and I believe that I can assist you in locating more information relating to the topic. Although there are many cures to skin disease and head Psoriasis, there is only one proven and very efficient remedy to reduce the disease to a negligible state for long periods of time and, hence, to reduce the overall suffering caused by it. In a study published by the Dead Sea in Israel, it seems that the perception of visitors in the medical-tourism sector has been correct. At least, according to the study, it is now official. The Dead Sea has healing attributes that cause the disease to regress. It is possible to sign up to the study at the following address: dead-sea-health.org/eng/psoriasis_03.html?6#assay6 Thank you again for the good work that you are doing – on behalf of all that are suffering.
I have psoriasis pretty much all over. My scalp is less of a problem now than other areas like behind and inside my ears, elbows, back, privates (most unpleasant), etc. I've tried pretty much everything and haven't had much success. Dovonex works reasonably well but is a lotion so it is challenging to get it onto the scalp under your hair.
Four years ago I had a prescription for Derma-Smoothe/FS (Fluocinolone Acetonide) for my scalp which helped quite a bit. It is an oil which you apply and then leave on for a while with a showercap on.
Mine does bleed but not very often (an often because I pick at it - shame on me). If the weather changes to dry and cold and I don't moisturize enough it will crack and be painful.
Try taking a cool/lukewarm bath with Aveno Bath and Shower Oil (works best!!) or Aveno oatmeal bath (powder packets, can't remember the actual name). These are about the ONLY thing that sooths my angry skin when it is flaring.
We have very hard water and I have found that in the last 2 years since we bought this house my skin has gotten about twice as bad. It got better (almost instantly) when we went on vacation and changed water. I am looking into a water softener soon.
thanks i hope its just this and nothing serious because even when I just scratch my hea dlightly in even spots that i dont have it. It bleeds. I mean the normal scratching someone would do if you got an itch. So now im baffled
