My ob said that because this is my 3rd mc, they want to do testing. I heard its just blood? Is this true, and what kind of blood tests are they? What will they tell?
TIA

I had the testing done last year and yes it was mainly just blood work. I remember them taking 5 vials of blood from me and one from my dh. I just found the sheet my dr gave me with all the blood tests on it. I'm not sure what all of them are but I'll list them anyway. They tested for Chlamydia, GC culture, Mycoplasma, DHEA-S, TSH, Prolactin, Cystic Fibrosis, Lupus Anticoagulant, ACA, Leiden S Factor, and Karyotyping on me and dh. Whew, that was a mouthful! Out of all of that, the only thing my dr found was I had a slightly elevated DHEA-S level and he put me on dexamethasone. The Cystic Fibrosis test was not mandatory and I guess a lot of insurance companies don't cover that one but mine did so I had it done.
I also had an HSG a few month later as I had never had one before and the last part of my IF & recurrent m/c testing was lap/hysteroscopy surgery that I just had done on 1/13/05. The reason I had the surgery was I did 3 medicated cycles and didn't get pg so my dr thought it would be a good next step.
OK, you know what? I think I had all of those tests done when I first started going to the RE ttc Gabrielle. I do have high DHEAS and I was on dex with Gabrielle and with this pregnancy. I will be on it again when we ttc again. I have been tested for the rest I believe. Even syphallis. I had 9 viles of blood, dh had 4. So I think they covered all of it, wouldn't you?
Thanks so much!

Yep, sounds like you've already had the testing you need. There maybe one or two that they would want to retest just in case but for the most part it sounds like you're covered.
Have you had lap/hysteroscopy surgery? If you haven't and your dr suggests it, I highly recommend it. The recovery time is very quick and I really like the fact that we finally know exactly what is going on inside me.
They may have me do this, I guess I will see come next tuesday. I have carried a baby to term, and every MC has been very early on, like 6-7 weeks....so I really do think its more egg quality. What other medications have you all been on while pg? Like I have heard of others on estrogen? Whats the same of that pill? Thats so much!

I've had 4 m/c's although it's almost like 5 because I lost a set of twins 6 weeks apart. They were all early m/c's (even the second twin only measured 4w6d), around 5 or 6 weeks. I've stayed on the met for the last three pgs and I was on progesterone support for the last two pgs.
We're pretty sure my problem is with my uterus. I have adenomyosis (like endo but in the muscle of the uterus) which can cause recurrent m/c and IF. My dr found stage 1 endo and polyps during my lap/hysteroscopy and removed all of it so we don't have to deal with that anymore. Now we just have to deal with the adeno.
Going forward we are going to be doing what my dr calls mini-stim cycles where I take 50 mgs of clomid cd 3-7, 75 units of follistim cd 7, 9, & 11, u/s on cd 12, trigger shot when ready, then back to back IUI's and start progesterone suppositories a few days later. I'm off the dex right now because of surgery but I'll start back on it when we start treatment again in early March.
Okay, now that I've told you more than you ever wanted to know I'll stop. Keep me posted on what your dr says .
Dots-
I totally appreciate you taking the time to help me! I will ask my Dr. about this! With me, so it seems anyhow, once we see a heart beat, all seems well. I never seen a heart beat with any of my other MC.
Again, thanks SO much. I am going to ask my Dr. about this! TONS of baby dust to you and much luck!

As you can see in my sig I've had just about every testing out there (as in RPL Testing, not Immunology testing-for personal reasons we are not doing that) & all has been fine so far. Since we're back from vacation finally (took almost a month off just to get away from the house), I'm going to schedule a lap/hysteroscopy to see what they find. My RE is pretty sure everything will be fine since I've had everything else come back normal. If everything is normal, we are doing 1 more follistim/IUI cycle; if something is wrong & can be fixed we are going to fix it & do 1 more follistim/IUI cycle; if something is wrong & can't be fixed we're moving on to adoption. If the follistim/IUI cycle doesn't work, we're moving on to adoption. We're realized that a family is more important to us than biological or adopted. I would love to be pg & go longer than 9 weeks but if I can't it's ok.
HTH's, I tend to ramble...especially since I haven't been online in a while!

RE said IVF next To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 0 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. ....starting IVF Feb/March 2010
My RE took blood samples just yesterday to test for:
Karyotyping for genetic or chromosome probs
Anticardiolipin antibodies/phospholipid antibodies (still looking this one up lipids are fats tho)
Lupus anticoagulants for blood clotting probs/thrombosis
Free T3, free T4, TSH and antithyroid antibodies - thyroid function tests
He showed me a list of literally hundreds of tests that can be performed for recurring m/c but said that the chances of a woman having some of them as being the problem could be 1 in 2 million and it's hard to justify the cost of performing these tests.
So I started off with these "most common" tests and because I'm in the 2ww, if I m/c again, I will do an HSG to see the shape of my uterus inside, and DF will have karyotyping too as the next step.
Hoping and praying that my results come back ok and that I get a BFP with a H&H pregnancy. I'm wishing the same for all of us.
Good luck,
Karen.

Since you ladies all seem so knowledgeable, i thought I'd ask my questions too!
I've had two miscarriages...one at 7 weeks and the first one at 9 weeks....we see the heartbeat and the baby starts to develp...and then later on the heart stops beating.
I just started the testing and have an appt with my doc next week. They are not testing us for genetic issues yet....not sure if the insurance company would actually pay for that.
So I guess my questions are this...
anybody else have this problem? and find a solution?
and any questions in particular that I should be asking?
Thanks so much for your help....its been and continues to be a long journey....
