Unhappy anyone have thick arms?

I am also going to post this on the diet and exercise group as well but just thought I'd ask here as well because technically I am a thin cyster though I tend to think of myself as NOT thin at 125lbs and five feet. I am trying to lose about 10-15 lbs because I think it's playing havoc with my health.

I am going to Curves for Women for the last week and hope to lose some weight and inches.

but my question is: do any of you have thick arms? of so, have you been able to tone them with weights and strength training? do they ever become THIN and toned? or do they remain thick and then get toned as they are?

Also, are think arms a sign of testosterone and androgenous tendencies? what does everyone think? any advice? how do I get thinner arms?

miri.

Doesn't really address your question, but good luck with Curves! I was a member there for about a year before my schedule started conflicting with their hours too much, and I loved it - I think some of my friends have had results loosing inches on the arms at Curves - I think a lot of it depends on your build - if it's already mostly being large boned or muscular, you're not as likely to lose as much. But will probably loose some. Good luck!

I am 5'3 and 153lbs, but do not look too overweight. I'm kind of a thin cyster compared to being obese, but I'm really scared that I'm going to blow up to a larger size soon. Anyway, I also have thick arms and it would be interesting to know if it's because of the testosterone level or if it's just genetic. I don't work out (though I should) but I generally have a bit of muscle under all of this fat. I have really broad shoulders that look a bit masculine. Interesting.

Hi Mazlynn and playingbyheart,

thanks for the replies! yeah, I am going to Curves about 2-3times a week. I'm also doing pilates and cardio. I do have days I don't feel like it but they are less now.

about the testosterone levels etc., I'm not sure but it sure feels like it. I just don't like my thick arms. they look thicker from the side. yuk.

also, check out my post in the diet and exercise thread. somebody posted a website there that has helped her with her arms. I went and signed up there as well.

if I see any improvements with curves or anything, I'll be sure to post it here.

thanks !

miri.

Come to think of it, I've got unusually broad shoulders for a female too - someone once asked if I was a swimmer when giving me a back massage due to the solidness of my shoulders - when I replied that my only workout was keeping the muscles tense due to stress, he was amused. Does make buying tailored shirts hard though - started shopping in guys section, much easier! Unlike my unsually prominent chin, which I blame on testosterone all the time, I never thought about the shoulders being connected. Food for thought...

Hmmm ... you may be onto something about broad shoulders, testosterone and PCOS. My shoulders are somewhat broad compared to the rest of me. My jacket/blouse size is always one or two dress sizes larger than my pants size. When I wear suits (not often), I have to keep the jacket on because the skirt or pants are either sitting a couple inches below where they should be or they are safety-pinned smaller at the waist. I guess I could have them altered, but I always think that after I have a baby the bottoms should fit about right. Now, to get PG *sigh*.

Oh yes, my figure skating coach recently asked me if I was a swimmer too because of my shoulders. I can swim, but I'm definately not a "swimmer"

I too have the big arm thing goin on! And it's not weight related, they've always been bigger. My mum said that when I was heading to a new school for year 3 she had to alter the pattern for the armholes! Even though I was one of the weedier willowy kids in my class at that age. Now that I'm a little over weight (not obese, but still a bit over) my arms are flabbyville! Nothing seems to move it either - I've done heavy weights/light weights - you name it, but the flab stays. My theory is that if I actually got to the lower end of my healthy weight range, the flab on my arms might actually start to move! Or the other option is flabbo surgery. If I had the spare cash, I'd do it!!! If you don't have big arms, you'll never know how much of a pain it is to have to ALWAYS where shirts/dresses with sleeves! And how bad it is to go shopping for shirts when your arms rarely fit down the holes! but I'll keep plugging away at it! Let me know how you all go!

Im a thin cyster and Ive alays had what I considered to be big arms. They are muscular. Actually, they aren't as muscular as they were before now that I'm getting older and rarely work out. I'm 5'2, 115 lbs. I noticed from my early teens that if I worked out my muscles would build quickly. I thin k this is because of the high testosterone. I was very self conscious about this in high school and often wore long sleeves.

I am with you on the larger arm thing going on. I have always had that problem even at a thinner weight (115) I am 123 now, and have always felt self conscious about it. Sundresses are out of the question due to the 'bulky arms". I went to curves for 9 months and loved it. I really changed the way my body is shaped although I still have a tummy! (Crummy when your tummy is larger than your behind!!) Curves didn't really change my arms although they seemed very muscular. I wasn't interested in muscles just toning. I think the high testosterone helped muscle them up.
