I was wondering if any of you are patients of Dr. Jarrett's in Indianapolis? If so, could you answer the following questions?
How were you diagnosed?
What is your protocol?
Any success stories?
Thanks in advance,

diagnosed through u/s & evaluation/questioning by dr. about my cycles, looked through bbt charts, etc(my former obgyn did lots of blood work so dr. jarrett had all that to go off of as well--i sent over records prior); the surgery mentioned above & 1500mg glumetza was my treatment; no success story yet--just started meds last month & surgery last week. hope so though-Xing fingers!!!!!!!!
Dr. Jarrett had me start on Met about a month ago, and I have worked up to 1500 of Glumetza, too. He wanted me to be on this until December and then we will decide what to do next. He said that he would probably start me with Femara and if that doesn't work I will have the ovarian diathermy. How did yours go? Was the recovery fast? I had a lap, so I am assuming it is the same.... When can you start TTC again?
Thanks,

well, to tell ya the truth, this has all been a crazy whirlwind! it seems like the WAIT to get in was torture, but from there(meds, surgery) went so fast. i am still trying to recover. it was not too long ago & i am finally up & around working again. i stopped bleeding today as well, yay! so, we are allowed to try anytime from this point and on. they said that it was really important that the bleeding stop 1st b/f attempting any "relations" LOL! by the way, he gave us a video of the procedure & WOW! very graphic & truly amazing.
how did he diagnose you? i have to say, i really liked the nurses in his office!(much nicer than my former obgyn's). also, what exactly does femara do?
I was diagnosed by ultrasound and history. I also had a lap in November 2006, which he reviewed. Femara is a fairly newer drug like Clomid, but he has seen good results with patients who have PCOS who use Femara instead of Clomid. Because I haven't had any luck with Clomid in the past, we will probably use Femara.

Are you following any type of "diet" while taking Met--not to lose weight--but to help with the PCOS? If so, what? What did Dr. Jarrett recommend to you?
Thanks,

He said to start out with low~carb just to help me get used to the meds. I did that for about a week & then starting researching pcos & healthy eating. I bought the book A Patient's Guide to PCOS and got info on starting a low sugar diet which I've been on for a couple weeks now. It's good so far & don't feel like I'm on a "diet" really. How about you?
He told me the same, and the nurses said it is important to stick with the low carb/low sugar so that the Glumetza is as effective as it can be. What are some of the basics that you have been following? I will have to get that book. I have been trying to do the best I can, but the carb part is the hardest. Any tips? Thanks for keeping in touch--it really helps.

I still eat carbs now, but they are more on the whole wheat/grain side. (except for the cheeseburger&fries I inhaled @lunch, LOL!-can't be perfect ALL the time). For instance, I eat a lot of fruit, veggies, lowfat yogurt, whole wheat bread&pasta&wildgrain rice, lean meats, & stay far away from fruit juice, sweets, crap food (most of the time), any white bread, rice, pasta. When I eat carbs, I combine them with a protein (ex: wholewheat toast & egg). Doing that helps to slow down how the sugar breaks down & gets into the blood. That book is what helped me to understand the "good" from the "bad" carbs & sugars. Anything low sugar or sugar free written on foods, I usually get(and there's A LOT!). I am nervous that none of this is going to work and help me get pg. I try not to think that way, but it creeps in sometimes...
Thanks. That definitely helps. I am going to try to look up that book. Please keep in touch. I would love to hear how you are doing and on your success!
