Hello Thin Cysters! I have read so many of your stories, cares & concerns but have not noticed if any of you are like me!! The only way I can have periods is if I take "provera"...I have went 3 years w/o having them before..I didn't realize the danger I was putting myself in until I found this site.. I have tried to have a baby for the past 10 years of my life and am still trying! I don't have the "PMS" symptoms either-plus I usually stay in a good mood all the time and I am always happy. I do have several other symptoms though! I was diagnosed with PCOS a little over 2 years ago! I just don't ovulate! Well, I was just wondering if I was the only one like me! - I'm just SO GLAD i found you girls.

Me me me me me me! All I ever have is very occasional spotting, unless I'm on the pill.
Until last week that is! I had been on metformin for exactly four weeks and one day, and AF turned up! I couldn't believe it, and I can't wait to see if it happens again. I'm sure it couldn't have been coincidental. Have you tried metformin at all?
Sorry to hear about your lack of AFs - I always thought it was a blessing until I started TTC.
So no, you're most definately not the only one!

I'm the same way! No periods, no ovulation. Zip. Nada. I have no noticeable physical symptoms of PCOS, just the silence of my reproductive system. I feel like I just need to find some switch somewhere on me that will fix the problem. I wish it was that easy!

I don't have a period either...of course I didn't know that cause I went on the pill at 18 after a 30 day period! When I went off of the pill (thinking it was the cause of my hair loss...right! ) I didn't have a period until I started on the pill again (6 months). I do have some other symptoms besides no period (hair loss, acne, some facial hair, very uneven mood). When I asked my doctor about Met, she said that she usually only gives it to people with classic signs of IR but recently had a patient who was thin like us, without a period, but refused to take the pill. This patient asked if she could try Met after trying several other things. My doctor said, sure, nothing else seemed to work. In 6 weeks, this patient had her first period in a year and a half. My doctor said that after seeing that result, she'd be very willing to try Met with me if I wanted...she said it could't hurt (not sure about that, but it sounds nice ).
when you say "hair loss" do you mean receding hair lines or chunks of hair??? I have long hair but everytime i take a shower i do have hair to come out but i thought that was normal??? Just checking to see if i have this symptom...?? My mind runs away with me wondering if i have this or that! Also, is Met kinda like Clomid..?? Sorry to sound so dumb to all of this-but I'm just learning.

Hi,
I'm sure there are alot of people out there that could offer you better advice, but like you I have never considered myself to have a weight problem. My only syptoms of PCOS was lack of ovulation, and acne. Before I was diagnosed I had gone to a bunch of different doctors. Some freaked me out by telling me that there was something definitly wrong with me, and then the next doctor I would see would tell me that it was normal not to have periods after going off of the pill. The only thing was that I was off the pill for a year with nothing. I finally found a doctor that I liked and she told me that when we decided to try that we would need some help. Since then I have found that I need more help than I initially thought.
Met and Clomid are two totally different things. Metformin is a drug that is given to help your body to use its insulin. The reason that you are not ovulating is because of unbalanced hormones which is believed to be caused by extra insulin in the blood stream. Metformin helps to make your cells more aware of insulin. Clomid is a ovulation stimulator.
Someone please correct me if I am way out to lunch.
Hey there:
Like you, my only symptoms were NO period after getting off the Pill after 11 years of taking it. I was confused. I went to a reproductive endocrinologist and he told me that I have a hormone imbalance and clomid would make me ovulate. He also said that after I have a baby, he thinks I will ovulate again on my own naturally. Well, I took clomid for the first time last month and it worked-I am almost 5 weeks pregnant! I am so relieved that I am finally pregnant. THANK GOD!! So, there's hope for you-that's the good news. Good luck with everything and just be sure you are going to a dr. who knows what he's doing...Email me anytime if I can help you.

Me too! Since I went off the pill in July 2000, I can't have periods on my own without provera, once I went 4 mths! it just doesn't happen for me so my dr always prescribe provera after 30 days cycle b/c I am ttc.
It's nice to see others with same symptoms as I. It really bothers me to know that I don't ovulate and that is soooo important in ttc. I just pray and hope it will happen.
Take care!

Hey there!! You sound like me!! I was on the pill for 11 years and just got off in September to try for a baby. No period-Nada. I was devastated and I knew something was very wrong.( husband and I are both nurses...) I fired my OB person, they did not appropriately care for my situation to say the least, and I found a very good reproductive endocrinologist who is MUCH more capable of dealing with folks like us than a regular OB.(I canot stress this enough!!!)
Anyway, to make a long story short-I got in to see the RE in January, they put me on Clomid 100mg (after Provera to make me have a period) and I got pregnant with twins the very first month! I am now at 10 weeks and the RE has been following me every step of the way and I can now finally go to ANOTHER OB.(not the one I fired, another group who he send a lot of his pts. to)
So, hopefully my story has inspired you and there is hope! If you have any questions or just want to talk email me, and good luck with everything.
Shanster
