anyone know the dangers of not getting your period. My first doctor shrugged it off like it wasn't a big deal and i was wondering if there were any real dangers of not getting it. i'll be going on my 3rd year in nov. of absolutely nothing. thanks.
Get another doctor fast. You need a doctor who is concerned with your health.
You should be having a period at least every 3 months to reduce the risk of endometrial cancer. You can get a prescription (I think it is called Provera) from a doctor to induce a period.

Any doctor who treats 3 years as not a big deal needs to be "fired".

thanks for being so concerned sistahs! I've been on provera twice...the 1st time it did work, but the last time it didn't. My then doctor wasn't a real doctor doctor..she was some kind of aide and should've referred me to the doc i'm seeing now. tests were taken and i now have an appt. with an endocrinologist for the end of may (earliest appt. I could get). it just shocked me that this one doctor just acted like it was no biggie...where as i thought this is something to be looked at in depth. it's scary that there are people out there w/ no clue and we call them doctor.

I saw several docs in Norway - the last one a "specialist gyno" that had an awesome reputation. He was also the one who said "let me know when you want to get pregnant and then we'll help you".
I guess me being a non-mom without periods wasn't worth his time of day ?!
I'm glad that you have an appointment with a new doc. Just remember - if you for some reason don't like this one, or he has an attitude like your last doc, FIND A NEW ONE!
I just had my first visit with my new PCP and I told him upfront that it was a test visit to find out if I liked him, trusted him and he proved to me that he would be benefitial to me! (Wow - when I write it down like that, I'm really proud of myself!)
Anyway, he seamed to be a very nice guy and I'm transferring my records from my old PCP's office over to him.
Best of look to ya!

I don't want to sound like an alarmist, but let me give you a little of MY history. Due to changes in insurance and stuff, I didn't go to the doc for almost 3 years (when I knew some of the dangers) Like you, I didn't have AF during that whole time. My doctor was very "up" on PCOS so right away she did an ultrasound to check how thick my endometrial lining was. It was almost 3 times the max suggested! This presented a danger of abnormal (precancerous) cells growing in there. She did a biopsy of the lining, then had me go on 3 cycles of Provera to cause periods for 3 months in a row, then did another biopsy to see if the lining was still growing abnormally. To make a long story short, after serveral rounds of this (no precancer cells were found, just simple hyperplasia) she wanted to do a hysterectomy because it still wasn't "normal". Needless to say, I changed doctors. This doctor said as long as we kept a close eye on it, simple hyperplasia wasn't a reason for hysterectomy. So I got a little complacent, and didn't use Provera for a few months (4). So this doctor, knowing my history of hyperplasia did a biopsy. This time, it did detect the abnormal precancerous cells - after only 4 months! She is opting for 3 months of provera cycles first, if that biopsy still shows abnormalities we'll do a D & C. I really wish she would just do it and get it over with- I pointed out if 9 months of double dosage provera didn't get rid of simple hyperplasia before...why should this take care of it now? But I really like this doc. ANyway,
see a doctor who realizes the dangers of going too long without AF - it could be your life you're dealing with.
