Default Anyone know anything about Estradiol levels?

My doctor said my estradiol level was a bit low (17) but nothing to worry about since the normal range is 19-528. But I was doing some research tonight online (never a good thing, lol) and I'm seeing all over the place that normal levels are actually 25-75. So I really am on the low end! What does this mean? Could this be hugely affecting conception??

haha, be careful w/internet research. i'm addicted & i once convinced myself i had ringworm and gave myself an anxiety attack - it turned out to be nothing at all.

wish i could help!

Ringworm, lol! I always do that. I've had cancer so many times according to google.
Anyway, estradiol is estrogen.

Oceanic Six-you had an Estradiol test done with where you are at in your cycle?? It seems strange that they would check your E2 after O. Usually, it's the progesterone that they test 7dpo and if they did the P4, 17 is a good number, as 15 and higher is normal if you're on a medicated cycle.

Oh! No, I had the estradiol tested on CD 3. Guess I should've mentioned that.

Oh, yeah, 25-75 is average...so your level is low. But if you were told there was nothing to worry about, then just go with the flow!

Mine is the opposite, too high. I don't know if being low is a problem as long as you produce follicles whether it's naturally or with meds and your estrogen increases accordingly. Also, our hormones flucuate, so you may find that your estrogen is higher at the beginning of another cycle. If your dr isn't worried, I'd trust him/her.

the estrogen and progesterone levels are low when you are on your period,I always thought estrogen has to be tested on cd 3 but my new endo actually wants me to go for blood work progesterone+estradiol on cd 18 after ovulation.

I just worry because I only get to take Clomid for 3 months. After that if I'm not pregnant I'm getting a laparoscopy, but I'm not doing anymore fertility drugs after that. So I want to make sure my hormones are at good enough levels to get pregnant on my own.

No, I guess I don't see the point. They just make you ovulate, right? So if I can ovulate on my own, I don't want to shoot myself up with a bunch of hormones. Plus I've read lots of horror stories about overstimulated ovaries.

wish i did. i wasted almost 2 years with unknown severe stage 4 endo TTC. its gone now, but my RE said it would have nothing short of a miracle if i would have gotten pregnant on my own.

I dont want to scare you.. Just relating an experience... wish i would have known

My doc actually recommended the lap before Clomid, but we'd be looking at $1500 (deductible). Hubby has one more year of school, and until next summer, we won't have much money. So I'm trying to put it off til as close to next summer as possible, which is why I wanted to try the Clomid one more time. I actually conceived on Clomid last year but had a miscarriage. So I'm really praying!

OceanicSix-the injectables don't make you O. The hcg trigger is what causes O. The injectables do the same thing as Clomid, just in different doses. I will most likely be starting Follistim this week (if AF comes tomorrow like I expect). Follistim is just FSH, so it'll grow my follicles but it won't make me O without the trigger when my follicles are ready.

Different labs have slightly different normals, so their "normal" might not correspond with the internet's. I can't see how low estrogen (or estradiol) at CD3 would be problematic for your fertility. It should just encourage your pituitary to crank up the LH and FSH. It would be like naturally having the effect of clomid or soy (estrogen receptor blockers), or femara (which reduces the production of estrogen). It should be a good thing!

Now, if you had low estradiol on CD12, then I would be concerned.

I hope the Clomid works for you!
