Default Anyone know anything about LighterLife?

Hello everyone,

Just wondered if anyone had heard of Lighter Life, its a weight loss programme which replaces meals with supplements and is heavilly based around counselling. I'm at the end of my tether, I just kept losing and gaining the same half stone and its getting me down. My next consultants appointment is looming in August and I'm supposed to have lost some weight (because that will solve all my symptoms, she says) Thinking about trying it, I've tried everything else!!!!!

Thanks in anticipation
Julie

Julie 28
Symptoms, infrequent but long periods (1 month long), overweight (esp round middle), thin head hair, excess body and facial hair, acne mild anxiety/depression, etc etc
Have been put on Microgynon BCP, for nearly 3 months now, novelty to have regular 'period' but getting headaches and nausea that I'm not sure is related and acne hasn't got any better.

Hi

I'm sure I've read about this somewhere. Like a womans weekly magazine Chat, Best or something like that!

Anyway, all I remember is that the woman interviewed lost lots of weight on it.

Hope this helps
Eva

A friend of a friend did it and thought it was wonderful.
She lost five stone in 14 weeks!!
But I don't know how she found out about it or how much it costs.

Hi ya

I'm on Lighterlife right now, have done it before (had to quit for money reasons).

I think its a great programme and the weight comes off quickly. I haven't gained any of the weight I lost when I was on it before and my friend lost 6 stone and hasn't put on a pound in 1 year.

However, if you only have 1/2 stone to lose you cannot do Lighterlife as it is a programme for those who have over 3 stone to lose.

They have a website lighterlife.co.uk. If you have any more questions let me know and i'll try and answer them for you.

Take care

Eloise

Hi,

I would love to know more about the Lighter Life programme.

Did you struggle with taking supplements rather than eating?? How long before you could start eating again??
Did you exercise??
How much did it cost??
Is it safe and healthy??

Hope you can help, I am desperate to do something....

Thanks

Hi ya

Yes, I was on Lighterlife. I quit about 6 weeks ago. I was having horrible stomach cramps and my doctor said there wasn't too much he could do if I stayed on the programme. He was a bit anti liquid diets. I stopped and so did the pain. I think it was because of the Ketosis, it was creating lots of acid and that made it very uncomfortable.

However, I know lots of people who have done the programme and have lost weight fast with no problems so I think it depends on the individual person. It costs £45 a week and you get 3 shakes a day (you make them with water) or 2 shakes and a bar (which are foul tasting in my humble opinion!) after week one. You sit through 2 hour weekly meetings and when you get to goal weight you have a maintenance programme that weans you back on. You have to have at least 3 stone to lose although i've seen some counsellors be a bit lax with this and allow people with 2-3 stone to lose on the programme. The Cambridge Diet doesn't have a minimum for you to lose as you can have just 1, 2 or 3 shakes a day, depends on how fast you want to lose.

Is it safe? Well, other than the stomach cramps I got, I didn't really feel bad on it, had lots of energy etc (you get headaches the first couple of days but that is your body weaning itself off sugar). I'm not a doctor so I couldn't talk too much about the safety issues. I do think however that vitamins are always better if they come from the food source and not a packet but that's just my opinion.

The only advice I can give you is that if you are at your wits end, be careful doing something like this. I felt like you and started it and when I couldn't finish it, I felt worse than when I started. I'm doing the IR plan now and although the weight comes off more slowly, I feel more sane. And for £45, I can eat a lot of nice food too! It is difficult to not eat every day. And suddenly you start to notice that everyone eats everywhere, on the street, on the bus, I was slowly driving myself mad!

Lighterlife does work, as does the Cambridge Diet (same thing, cheaper, £31 a week I think, has ready made shakes you can put in your handbag and no weekly meetings) because they are so low calorie (under 550 a day). You drink lots of water (over 4 litres a day) and so you are never really that hungry. If you think you can do it, go for it, but remember its a short term solution, in the end to maintain that weight you will still have to change your eating habits in order to control the PCOS so perhaps it might be better to start with a plan like the IR diet which is very PCOS friendly!

If you have any more questions let me know or PM me and i'll try to answer them.

I am also thinking about starting about the lighterlife programe after seeing it mentioned on Discovery health (on Sky tv). I have
tried everything from weight watcher to slimming worlkd to low carbing to slim fast and like Julyo i lose about half a stone to a stone then put it back on again.

I have e-mailed the site and they have sent me the number of my nearest counsellor. (I havent been able to speak to her yet though)

I am thinking about starting it after Xmas due to finances (it costs £45 per week) and the fact that if i'm honest with myself i wont stick to it fully over xmas.

If anyone wants to buddy up to chat about this i would be really interested to hear from you

I'm considering doing this having done wieght watchers, slimming world, cambridge, slimfast and God knows what else. My friend is on it and addmittedly she has lost a lot of weight (4 stones) in a few months. The downside is she had a few problems moving house and in 2 weeks she put back on 1 1/2 stones by coming off the diet and eating again.

The other concern of mine is if I dont eat i get major headaches like I wanna vomit, can't see, everything goes bright and as I have high blood pressure and now been placed on medication I wonder if going on this rapid wieght loss programme is a good idea. I'd hate to go in search of a slim figure to die in the process.

Finally, with a baby and BF to feed (I do all the cooking) it would be very hard not to cheat. My friend tells me if you have a glass of water with so much as a drop of lemon it reverts the whole process and you have to go back to the beginning of that initial 2 day starvation and start all over again. It's a VERY strict diet. BUT...if you're desperate (like me) what else can you do????

sigh........

If you're breastfeeding you won't be allowed to start LighterLife..

I was going to try it last year, then a week before I was signing up, I found I was pregnant, so no go!

Can't afford it now, otherwise I might have considered it again.
