Default Anyone know what all drug companies offer medication assistance?

My husband and I are in a position where we are needing to assist with mental health care for his father, who is suffering from alcoholism and depression. DH is visiting his father and family this weekend to try to get a scope of how bad the situation really is - we have a feeling we haven't been getting the whole story for quite some time now. The financial implications of getting drawn into this are, to say the least, daunting.

Today at the doctor's office I noticed a flyer that says the makers of Lexapro will provide free meds to patients in need. This seems like an option we should consider. Does anyone know what all, if any, other drug companies provide similar medication assistance?

Most drug companies in the US have a program. The gov. made a deal with them to allow them to set their own prices, which is why meds are cheaper in Canada and Mexico. In return the companies have to offer free meds. to those in need or with no insurance. There is also a group called called Nations Health Senior Discount Prescription Plan that will give a FREE membership to anybody (unless you are on Medicaid, I think). You just call them and they only ask you that one questions (about Medicaid) and send you out a card immediately. Their phone number is 800-977-9655. You don't have to be a senior. They offer medications at very reduced prices. Your Dr. should be able to help you with this, and of course you do have to have a prescription for both programs. Hope this helps.
I hope you FIL does ok and is able to get the help he needs.
