My Mood: Points: 731.49 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 731.49 | Is anyone like ME?! I really feel like the odd ball out here because the only symptom that made my doctor DX me was extreme lower abdomen pain (which turned out to possible be a ruptured cyst). It only lasted for about 2 hours but it was THE worse pain I have experienced in my life. I have only had this pain once before (2 years prior). Otherwise nothing else "common". I had abnormal labs and a cyst present U/S so that finally gave the DX. but for the past 4 years I have had elevated CRP and liver labs - I've come to recently find out that these are associated with PCOS. I also have had intermittent extreme chills and night sweats. but no hair loss, abnormal hair, acne, enlarged ovaries, thickened cervix, NOTHING! I'm gonna say its because I've been on Ortho tri-cyclen lo for the past 3 years and Mircette before that. so I've never noticed any missed periods etc. I did have some weight gain (50 lbs over the last 4 years) but I attributed this to the BCPs. anyways! those are my "symptoms"!
I was only DX'ed yesterday and I started Met yesterday (just 500mg for one week then 1 BID).
I am very anxious about any fertility issues so I have an appt with a RE on 7/17. MY DF and I's plan is to not start TTC until he is in his 4th year of med school. He will be beginning 2nd year this fall so I have lots of time to think about it!
I am hoping the Met will help me lose some weight before I TTC. I currently do aerobic exercise 30 mins about 4 x a week but I would love to lose 50-75 lbs.
Thanks for reading my "odd" thread

My Mood: Points: 1,317.04 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 1,317.04 | well, i was told i have PCOS when i went to the hospital for abnormal bleeding. that's all i had (well, as far as the labs say)
i do have other symtoms, but i always thought it was my genetics, not something medically wrong with me...
but yeah.... extra facial hair (that has gotten worse over the years), uh, wacky periods (since day one!) i won't go into the list.. but some of the things that i have noticed, like i said, seemed like physical traits passed on down the line, and had nothing to to with hormones. but i now know different.
thanks for posting this. sometimes people won't post a glimps into their lives, becasue they feel like the oddball.

Maybe the reasons more symptoms haven't emerged is because of the BCP.
BCP mask or hide the effects of PCOS rather than treating it. That's why it's not advisable to treat PCOS with BCP. The popular med of choice to treat it right now is Metformin. There are other meds that work just as well, and each woman responds differently to the meds, but the most popular go-to med is Metformin. Hopefully you'll see improvements over the course of taking it.
And feel free to read elsewhere throughout the forum, there's lots of good info from other members as to what worked for them when they started TTC. Since it'll be awhile before you TTC, you can at least research what works and what doesn't and get a head start on things so that way you won't have to struggle with it when the time comes, like a lot of us have struggled. |

My Mood: Points: 731.49 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 731.49 | thanks! I am going to see the RE next month so i will know ALL my options. i plan to discuss BCP because i have been taking them for so long. We are not looking to conceive now so we will see what they say. It has been a long time since I have had a normal non BCP AF so if i go off we will see what happens! thanks for the info!
