I was Dx'ed with PCOS two months ago and at that time my Dr. didn't seem to give much regard to what type of pill would be best, but rather just tossed some Loestrin samples my way. This was a little disconcerting because I had discussed with her that I had bad side effects from the pill in the past, but I guess she figured any low-dose pill would take care of it.
Fast forward to now-- this pill is making me ca-razy! I have never been so emotional and depressed, the moderate acne I've been experiencing is worse no matter what I do, I got PMS back aches for the first time ever this month, I am retaining water like nobody's business, and weight loss I was seeing with the Metformin came to a screeching halt once I started Loestrin and hasn't returned. (My Dr. says this has nothing to do with it)
I am reading that Loestin isn't the best choice if you have an androgen issue. Has anyone else tried it? What are your thoughts on Loestrin for managing your PCOS symptoms?
Loestrin put my body in total "freak out". I had terrible mood swings, bad breakouts, retaining water, and the worse part was A LOT of breakthrough bleeding. My doctor made me hang in there for 4 months, but I wasn't happy about it. I just started FemCon, we'll see if that works a little better. Good luck!!!!
It's not great for PCOS, and you're right, it is quite androgenic compared to pills such as Yasmin, Desogen/Marvelon, Ortho-Cyclen etc. It also has a potent progestogenic effect, which is why you experience the mood swings, acne etc. I would change to another pill as it is unlikely to improve, and you need something more suitable for PCOS really.
thanks for your input girls-- i'm starting to think this is just about the absolute worst pill i could be on. by the time i had finished the four days of 'inactive pills' in my second month, my acne had vanished and i had lost EIGHT POUNDS. all of that four days off the active pills! i'm tempted to flush them all down the toilet right now and leave a sarcastic thank you for my gynecologist for completely jacking up the last two months of my life when she casually tossed these pills my way.
she has said the same thing when i called in tears about the three weeks of bleeding and cramping 'stay on the pills for three months, and then we'll see' -- no, we won't see. i will see a specialist next week who gives a sh*t and you will see that my follow-up appointment has been crossed off in your schedule book. after ten years of undiagnosed pcos i'm done messing around-- haha!
I was on it..I just went off of it when I was diagnosed last week. I didnt have many problems besides weight and I think BCP were giving me anxiety problems. I tried ERRIN..A progesterone only pill and my body WENT INTO SHOCK. and So I went back to the loestron a couple months ago. My body still isnt right...I stopped getting a period with loestrin..
