Talking Anyone from London, Ontario?

I have been diagnosed with PCOS and I was given very little information about it at the time....I actually had to purchase a book at Chapters at the time...I am on Metformin and am wondering if this is the correct meds? I have regular periods but have chin hair, male pattern balding, tiredness. My periods are heavy on days 1-3 (think niagra falls) and there is clotting.
I am going to ask my doctor for a second opinion! I don't doubt that I have PCOS but I I am hoping for more info now.

Default from london

HI,
I am not in london now, but from there. I lived and grew up in Whitehills. I now live in Pennsylvania teaching spec. ed and moving back to london in the spring with my husband. We eventually are goign up to muskoka to the lake, but am very concerend that ontario dosnt have a good medical support system for PCOS patients. I am wondering how your making out with london doctors. Do they seem to know what they are doing. There is a lot of slack abotu the american medical system, however I feel that I am really getting what I need from the doctors and specalists. Maybe we can stay intouch. Best of luck with things. I hate having to take all these meds, and still not loose a lb! Im sure you know what im feeling!
talk soon,

michelle

Hi there, not from London, but just down the 401 a bit near Woodstock. Welcome! Did you see your regular GP for the diagnosis or an OBGYN?

I don't think they know what they are doing...I am thinking that Metformin may be okay but I have not noticed any changes in my weight or anything else....I have chin hair but my GP won't perscribe the Vanaiqua(sp?)...it is ridiculous! I would love to keep in touch...my email is jennpearce@rogers.com

I went to my GP and basically told him I suspected (after much research myself) that I had PCOS, so he referred me right away to a great OBGYN. My OBGYN was always open to hearing what I had to say about treatment plans, and let me choose which way I wanted to go. I kept myself really informed reading as much as I could everywhere about how I wanted to be treated. I ended up opting for the Metformin as I tested slightly IR, and started getting regular cycles.. DH and I are now TTC so we're seeing a fertility clinic, since I don't actually ovulate on the Met alone.. It's good that your doctor referred you if she wasn't sure how to handle your case. I hope your new doctor gives you the help you need. Also, my doctor originally didn't even know what Vaniqa was, I had to tell him (my GP) but the last time I checked (couple months ago) our Pharmacy couldnt get it anymore, discontinued or something like that.
