Default Anyone with low insulin try met?

Hi there,

I'm a thin cyster with a fasting insulin of 2.5. My RE won't prescribe Metformin for me because of the chance of having a hypoglycemic episode. I'm not sure if that is even a real possibility.

Anyone with low insulin try met? How did you feel on it, what changes if any have you noticed? I really want to try it, my options are dwindling!

I have low insulin, and I just started taking Met so we will see how it goes. My gyn said the max she would allow me to take is 1000mg/day. Right now I'm on 500mg for a little bit before I try 1000mg. She did say that we would have to make sure I didn't have any issues with hypoglycemia, but if I felt okay on it, it could help regulate hormone levels.

See this other post as well:

Metformin & not IR?

I dont know what my levels were but i did have the glucose tolerance test which came back as normal. But i dont know if it was low or jsut normal if i remember rightly it was around 3. My doctor still put me on metformin at the moment im still only on 500mgs but when im on full dose i will be on 1700mgs as it says in my signature. i think the thing to do is have more than one test done to make sure its absolutely correct as a level, personally with a level like that i wouldnt want to take it, but then again i always take it with food and make sure that i eat properly throughout the day, maybe ask your doctor if hes willing to look at other options

Good Luck

How are you girls feeling on met???
Have you noticed any changes yet? I would love to hear how its going.
I have an appointment tomorrow with the RE, I am going to ask for the 3rd time to try met. I feel I need to be persistent about this, all the risks of taking injectibles far outweigh the risks with metformin in my opinion.

Good luck ladies!
