About me, I was diagnosed on 28th Sept this year but have known a while I have PCOS, just waiting the test results / final diagnosis. Currently working through weight watchers - have lost 18lb in 8 weeks so chuffed to bits with that! My Gyno wants me to get to 11st before January when I next see her so i can go on Clomid if by some miracle I start ovulating etc before then. I came off the pill in June/July last year after getting married and we have been trying to conceive since but I have only had one period, sept this year , 2 days after my HSG, probably because my system was flushed after the HSg but perhaps because of the weight loss - who knows? If I dont ovulate naturally before jan when I see the gyno again I start on medroxyprogesterone to "shed" mt lining every 3/4 months. Glucose tests on wednesday for tolerance etc. Thats me and my story so far.
I'm nearish, from Washington (near Sunderland/Durham) in the North East. Similar to you, recently diagnosed by doctors but realize now that I've had PCOS since puberty. Have practically all the array of symptoms but nothing stood out so I left them until early January this year when I was at the end of my tether with symptoms, I found this wonderful website and found the link with PCOS and saw my GP.
Unlike yourself, however, I'm single, not TTC so my priorities are slightly different at the moment although fertility is something worrying me for future (along with everything else).
My GP is good but the only treatment according the Gynie I was referred to was the Combined Pill and weight reduction and then Clomid if I ever want to TTC. Tried Pill but had to stop because of High Blood Pressure, headaches etc. Gynie was not sympathetic about lack of options she was giving me but because I got upset (tearful not stroppy) she referred to an Endocrynologist. He was pretty good (went last week on a cancellation appt) and has suggested a few other things to try after I've been for my IR tests. Suggested weight loss pills first (not sure about them?) and he mentioned Metformin (I'm keen to try that)
Been going to Weightwatchers since June, had lost 1.5 stones until last night when I had gained 4.5lbs after a very good weekend away in Prague (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED), wasn't counting points but thought the walking would have kept the gain down to a minimum!!! How wrong was I!!! In my defense I think I deserved credit as I did go straight to get weighed even though I knew the news was v. bad (from my own scales)Stepped off the plane, went straight to the gym, got weighed and stopped to class, am back on the plan today so I'm not beating myself up about it as much as I normally do. Previously I would have missed the weighin and tried to have a good week on my own, probably wouldn't have so missed the next one too and that would have been the end to the Weightwatchers for a while....
Don't know your starting weight so not sure how much you need to lose to get to the Gynies 11 stone target for January but this time with me (because I've tried numerous times with several diet clubs and had about 5 stone to lose) I've set small targets for myself, like half a stone by a friends wedding in 2 months, another half a stone by Christmas and stuff like that. I seem to be more focussed this time because theres health stuff involved and not just cosmetic reasons.... Your weightloss is great so far, my tip is to always try to stay to the Weightwathers class as it leaves you in a more positive frame of mind for the next week... (and its an expensive way to get weighed each week)
I hope you're finding the docs in your area good, it's very frustating to wait for appts/weightloss etc especially when you know what you want but it'll be worth it in the end. Just wish the NHS was a bit more proactive rather of reactive!!!
Sorry its so long AND rambling, must be the buzz from the good weekend still!!!!
