So, once I get confirmed that I have PCOS (if that is the case), I am wanting to just try to change my lifestyle (diet, exercise, no stress) and see if that makes a difference. I really think it can. Of course, when it comes time for me to TTC, I will be open to different fertility drugs or whatever they suggest. However, in the meantime, I would like to remain "drug" or medication free.
Is anyone else doing this? (of course as long as it isn't required for your well being)
I wish i wernt taking meds for it but i am
I am on the depo revera and it has done wonders for me although i tiny bit of weight gain but nothing to bad
i was on a lot of pain killers at one point . i still take quite a few pain meds a day as my overarys are damaged and my pain recerpter nervres in my stomach dont work propelry ...strange aye
diet does help me loads and being as stress free as possible helps to
good luck

Me !! Im drug free !! I did try Met to see if that would help regulate my periods but we didn’t get on together !! LOL
So now I am drug free I do take star flower oil and magnesium ok vitamins but that’s about it. When I lost weight previously I felt much better my symptoms disappeared.
That is awesome ladies! Thanks for the hope. I know there are circumstances where a lot of women have to take meds...I am just hoping not to. I was on the pill for 6 years and have been off about 3...so I'd rather not return (unless I need something for when we try to get pregnant in a few years). At this point, I have been trying to eat healthier (taking out the processed foods I used to eat and cutting out sugar). Unfortunately, I used to eat sugar sooooo much that the doctor thinks I could be close to becoming IR if I am not already. I am not overweight, but I am totally out of shape! AND, I stress way too much. So, I am hoping with the combo of those three things, I can turn this thing around for myself. Good luck to both of you!
i'm not taking any medications, not even vitamin tablets. i was taking met and spiro for a while but they were not having any effect so i did not see the point continuing to take them. my symptoms are very mild tho.
I'm currently not on any meds (though, I should call in for a new RX for Met). I am BFing, and that seems to have kept a lot of my symptoms at bay. And, I really attribute my BFing to losing weight. Well, along with a healthy diet (WW - concentrating on lean meats, whole grains, lots of veggies and some fruits) and exercise (a very important part of it all!).
I am on met now, but a few years ago I was able to control with diet and exercise. That gave me a surprise blessing. He is almost 4 now! I hope to be able to get off of met someday and just use diet and exercise to keep things under control.
I'm medication free. I was on the BCP several times. They made me sick, really, incredibly, want to crawl into a hole and die sick. So f@!# that. I take a multivitamin, cinnamon and fish oil pills (when I can remember). Mostly I use diet and exercise to help smooth everything out. And it is working. So it can be done. Good luck!

"I've tripped again and things are starting to get interesting..."
Quote of the day: "When my eyes get all glazed and my head starts bobbing, don't try to listen for the music. There is no music. There is just me. I'm dreaming."
I'm also Medication Free. When i was diagnosed in 2005, I took metformin for a month, and never refilled it. I've lost alot of weight with diet and exercise, and I've had normal cycles since May of 2006.
I wish you the best. =]

I absolutely think it is doable, although some women do need meds to help things along in the beginning.
I took met for 7 months and got pregnant with my now 2-year-old. I nursed him for over 2 years, and had regular periods from the time he turned 16 months until I got pregnant (the month he turned 2). I also lost 20lbs on WW, which I think contributed to my ability to keep things regular. I am currently not on meds, but pregnancy seems to really agree with me and my PCOS symptoms, lol.
I would definitely give it a try, but if things don't improve, or get worse, see what can be done to help get things on track. FWIW, I'm a relatively thin cyster (at my highest weight I was a size 12...I'm now an 8, and 6 is realistically the lowest size I could be and still look and feel healthy), and I did need some help in the beginning. I'm pretty certain that I can manage PCOS with diet and exercise alone when not nursing, but I haven't gotten that far. Good luck! Whatever progress you make now can potentially make your TTC journey easier when you're ready.

My doctor prefers that I control symptoms with diet and exercise and if I am diligent and stay away from any refined foods I actually feel healthy and start to loose weight. What I can suggest to everyone out there is the basics a SC and family member told me when I was diagnosed. Stop all refined foods, this includes white flour, white rice and sugar. Also I am very sensitive to yeast so no leven bread for me either. I try to eat organic foods when I am able to as I find preseravtives and chemical additives disagree with me even more as the years go by after diagnosis.
If you are overweight even loosing 5-20 pounds can make a difference to your symptoms.
I am also hoping to change my diet and add exercise (UGH!!!!) and i do think it might be possible. I am not on anything yet, i am carrying prescription for progesterone in my purse, but feeling like its not time yet. Today I found out that i should research natural progesterone as opposed to synthetic, so maybe i will do that. But as for now, I am doing insane research on what I can and can't eat, and I hope to give that a try.
I was off meds for a long time, but had irregular periods etc. I've just started back on met because I've found I'm gaining weight, losing more hair off my head, and getting the hairiest chin out. I believe some people can do it though without meds!
