Default Anyone out there trying to diet/excercise in Az?

I keep coming up against the same problem-- Its too hot for me to want to do anything!! I know only people who live in this weather could truly understand what I mean. I intend to excercise but I always stop or give up quickly because I am so uncomfortable. I know its sounds like I am just being lazy but when it is more than 100 degrees even in the shade the idea of doing anything physical just makes you cringe- which then makes you depressed. Does anyone else have this problem or understand how it feels?

Why not just exercise inside, or if you like working out outside, start pretty early in the morning before the sun is on full blast.

I have the opposite problem! The winters here are sooo cold and I have no interest in doing anything outside. I usually use workout videos during the winter months and I just got a Wii so I'm going to switch between them thru the winter. Maybe you could do something like that when its to hot out? I can't stand either extremes so I do a lot of indoor workouts! Ooh I also rent different workouts on my digital video on demand.

I live in Tucson, Az. I completely understand!! Sounds odd but the heat makes me tired, even if you exercise inside. I have too keep the AC at 75 degrees. To me.. that is still so hot, and when I do it indoors I get bored so easily. So, I tried moving it outdoors and the heat at 4 am is still too hot. I just get so tired of it at times. What I finally moved to doing.. (sometimes haha) was getting an elliptical machine, using it indoors, then putting a fan on me.

Tips for outside:
1. Water, water, water!!! Drink it up, we are in the heat the more you drink and hydrated you are the better chances you are to keep it up.
2. Morning or sunset is best. Try to go on a breezy day.
3. Before you go, be relaxed, and if you tend to over heat (I do) Right before I leave I put an ice cube over my wrists (on top of veins) and neck, I do that when I get home as well. Otherwise I would faint.
4. I also try to find exercise in anything that would keep me busy where I don't notice the heat. For example I help out a friend with her horses.. for about 3 hours a day.. I get sooo much exercise from that. Or just going to the pool. Anything.. you should try.
5. Go to a store (walmart, Target) get a spray bottle. Fill it with cool water and spray it on your face and neck as you exercise.
Indoors:
1. Fans!!! (do wonders!!!!!)
2. water water water! yum yum right? haha.
3. Do something fun! So you don't realize it's exercise. I took a pole dancing class with friends. I lost so much weight. I loved it and doing it for fun, is nice. I am not saying I'm a pole dancer now. haha.

I hope this all helps. Let me know if you ever want a buddy in Az, you can relate too!

Raine- thanks for the tips. Its so great to hear that someone else feels like I do . I definitely intend to use your ice cube trick- I never thought of that before.

No problem, I forgot to say why that works, Your veins in your neck, behind your ears, wrists behind your knee caps, um ankles, those are the most sensitive to heat and cold and what not, so the more coolness you get on there the faster you will be cooled. Also, don't drink cold water like ice cube col if your running or what not. People always think it is the best to do that in hot weather, it is a good feeling but it could upset your stomach. Then that's no fun at all!

YES!! I totally feel your pain! Being originally from the midwest and moving here most recently from Canada I have a really hard time dealing with the heat. It just zaps the energy right out of me. Even going to the air conditioned gym is a chore when you have to get in the boiling car to do so. So yes, I know where you are coming from. I'm just glad that the weather is getting cooler... ahhh..... 100 degrees is actually a nice day!

Yep, I live in AZ too and half the time I am still hot in the a/c. It's so horrible here. The only kind of exercise I can do right now is walking the mall. Good luck and you are not alone!
