I have lost about 7 pounds in 2 1/2 weeks. The doctor put me on birth control and these. She wants me to keep me on birth control for about 3 to 4 months, take me off and see if i go by myself. Why i am taking the diet pills, is to help me lose some weight to help my body "do its own period".
Anyone been on it or is taking it? comments? |

Just enough weight to lose so my it will help my period to jump start. I have been taking lortabs 10 and somas for about 2 1/2 years caz of sever back and knee problems, they are suppose to be additive too. One time my in law thought i was addited to them and was making a big deal about it. I got so mad i went a few days without them. Was bawling in pain, hubby finally got so mad at her that she finally appologized and said she just wanted to "bug" me. I cant stand when people say that kind of stuff. I just wish for one day we could trasfer pain to people and show them what you really have to go through with day after day. Then they would know you wouldnt be faking. |

But it did wear off after a while. Also I stopped taking it because I read that it raises your blood pressure.

My Mood: Points: 9,520.75 Bank: 41,563.15 Total Points: 51,083.91 | I take Bontril SR. I've taken OTC stuff before and those pills did nothing. However, with Bontril SR, I have found that I am able to actually stick to portion sizes without feeling like I'm starving. I've been on it about 2 months now. I haven't had any ill effects, except for the first couple of days that I took it: I had trouble falling asleep. Now, I don't even have to take it every day. My doctor prescribed it for me to help me get over the constant feeling of being hungry so that I could stick to my diet. It seems to be working, as I am only hungry when it is "meal time", and I feel satisfied with the amount of food I am eating. My doctor did run a bunch of tests before I started on it, and I have to have my blood checked every 3 months anyways because of my thyroid. I recommend this drug if your doc feels that it is right for you, but I would also recommend making sure that you are taking a good prenatal or multivitamin and a calcium supplement too.

I think its some type of upper/speed type drug. Never felt addicted to it though. It was all the rage back in the 90's - it was one part of the Phen-Fen diet pills .. .they took the Fen part off the market I beleive due to heart issues. I used the Phen - Fen with great sucess .. .lost 50# in about 6 months ... wonderful while it lasted ... gained it all back then some with 2 pregnacy's back to back .... |

Painkillers/muscle relaxers like Soma and Lortab slow down your GI tract (usually causing constipation.) This may be why you've had some problems with your weight. I had a pretty severe back injury the summer between my freshman and sophomore years of college. I was placed on Vicodin and Skelaxin while going to physical therapy, and holy crap did I pack on the pounds. Once I found out that these classes of drugs are hell on the GI tract, I tossed them. I found other ways to deal with the pain until my back healed.
As for the phentermine, I've heard of it. I knew a girl in my dorm years ago (2003ish) who took it--and became a raving, shaking nutcase for a few weeks. Obviously, she abused the drug. Even so, it always left a bad taste in my mouth.
Either way, I hope you get the results you want from the phentermine! Hope your knee and back problems are resolved!

It doesn't have the caffeine & stuff in it that phentermine does. I've been on it about 3.5 mths & have lost 40lbs. I also go to the dr every 8 wks for check up & I also had a TON of bw done when he first prescribed it. He prescribes adipex w/avandamet which work together to control cravings & hunger. Anyway, just wanted to let you know you're not the only one on it

Points: 213.56 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 213.56 | My doc also put me on Adipex (37.5mg) because of emotional eating and constantly feeling hungry. It felt like I had to eat all the time or I was going to run out of steam. The very first day I felt weird, but it absolutely curbed my appetite. It was amazing!
For the first time in a long time, the first thought in my mind wasn't "what's for breakfast?" I am much less concerned about eating, and more importantly, what I'm eating. I can eat a low carb, low cal meal and be totally satisfied. Met, unfortunately, didn't curb any cravings. But with Adipex, I am eating correct portions. Veggies, lean meats, and salads (all fresh, not frozen or canned) have become my new eating lifestyle!
The first 2 weeks I was on Adipex, and followed strict exercise and diet guidelines, I lost 13 lbs. This is my third week and hopefully more loss is to come. The real test will be when I stop taking Adipex, but I firmly believe I can maintain this regiment and self-discipline. |

| Phentermine is just the generic name of Adipex, both are the exact same drug, neither contain caffeine. Its chemical structure is similar to amphetamines so that is why it seems to act like "speed".

My Mood: Points: 3,582.54 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 3,582.54 | I have also taken phentermine and lost 32 pounds with exercise and with fixing my diet. I am no longer on it, and have not been great about my diet, however I am still exercising and have maintained the 32 pound loss for almost a year. I have been TTC and it is not going so well, so I am taking 2 to 3 months off and going back on phentermine and a good diet to try to lose atleast another 20 pounds.
It can be habit forming, you need to drink LOTS of water. No alcohol!!! As my Dr. has stated to me, you need to be active while taking it otherwise you are just wasting your time and will not lose as much as you potentially could if you were exercising. Make sure you still eat and I am not talking eating 600 calories a day you need to figure out how many calories YOUR body needs, how much exercise you are getting and what type of foods you are eating. For me to maintain the 230 I am at now I would have to eat 1900 calories, to lose weight I need to eat atleast and no more then 1545 calories per day based on weight, age, amount of exercise and type of food I am eating.
Good luck!!!
Tracy
