Hi, has anyone read The Pcos Diet Book: How You Can Use the Nutritional Approach to Deal With Polycystic Ovary Syndrome
By Colette Harris, Theresa Cheung, Theresa Francis-Cheung
Contributor Theresa Francis-Cheung
Published by Thorsons, 2002
ISBN 0007131844, 9780007131846
336 pages
I saw it was recommended on some site so I placed an order for it at the library to check it out... it will be some time till I get it.
I thummed through it and after reading the diet with no diary, only organic (which I apply to majority of the time) and other un-realistic advice for me, I put it back. Sorry I can't offer much else advice... Good luck!
It was still helpful, thank you. I believe the "no milk" rule pertains to the fact that cows are injected with hormones to produce more milk.. and those hormones make their way into the milk we drink. Sad because I love milk
I'll check it out. The biggest complaint I've seen on amazon is that the recipes use words and products that are typically British. Now I don't mind the words, I love the Brits , and the products I think I can get my way around them.
Hi Kora,
I haven't read the book, but am waiting to peruse some PCOS books at Barnes and Noble. Surprisingly, the didn't have the PCOS books I asked for and ordered them. I'll let you know what I find.
Regarding milk... you CAN drink it! Just buy organic milk and as many organic products as you can... meat, fruits, etc. It can get expensive so I pick and choose what's on sale.
A good read is The 7 Principles of Burning Fat Burning by Berg. A nutritionist recommended it to me. It'll tell you more about your body type and the author encourages cysters to eat organic. I'm finding the book helpful for my diet and exercise needs.
Thanks for the input. I really appreciate it . THe Pcos book just arrived at my library, so I will check it out.
If I do drink milk, I usually drink UHT milk... not sure if organic milk is available here. I don't eat meat, but sometimes I will have fish and I'm picky about it too lol.
I'm hoping I can improve my symptoms with this book!
Kora,
Did you read the book yet? I picked it up at a used bookstore about two months ago, but I haven't gotten around to reading it. I was just wondering if you did have a chance to read it what you thought before I spend the time reading the whole thing.
Thanks

I have this book in a pile waiting to be read. Unfortunately its due back at the library the day before my last exam. I'll have to cram it in somewhere while I'm cramming for exams.

I just did a search and apparently a lot of people on this site have read it. I had never heard of it before I found it on the bookshelf. What I think I'll end up doing it flipping though it and reading the sections that apply to me and what I will get the most out of.

I read her other book first "PCOS: A Woman's Guide to Dealing with Polycystic... " (very briefly last night) and I wasn't a big fan. I think it would be best for someone who is waiting on results or a diagnosis rather than us 'veterans' who have done a lot of research already! I had a quick browse through the PCOS Diet Book and I think its going to be similar.
