Hello everyone!
I was wondering are there any ladies from Southampton who can recommend specialists for PCOS. I've seen two different gyno's in the North Hampshire Hospital but they didn't want to prescribe the met for me. So,my GP said if I want to see an endo I have to go to Southampton. So,is anyone of you from Southampton and can you recommend a doc for me please?
Hiya,
I'm not in Southampton but am close in Portsmouth. My endo is called Dr Meekin and he prescribed me met. I don't know if this helps! He works out of St Mary's Hospital in Portsmouth.

Yes! I'm in Southampton. I see Dr Derek Sandeman (Consultant Endocrinologist) at the BUPA Chalybeate Hospital (near Southampton General). He also sees people through the NHS, but the waiting list was 7 months when I first got my appointment. It's the reason why I went private.
He's lovely and very interested in PCOS. Let me know if you want any more details.

Thank you so much for your reply! I think I'll ask my GP to refer me to your endo My gyno says that there is nothing she can do about my PCOS because I'm not ttc and she is putting me on stronger bcp and they're killing me. Did he prescribed the met for you?
He was great (very smiley man). He didn't prescribe Met in the first appointment, as he wanted to run all the tests first. He prescribed it in the second one once he had all the results. He's very easy to talk to (I find!) and will always listen to what you say.
He gave me a private Met prescription, and it was actually cheaper than on the NHS. But once he prescribed it the first time, he will let your GP know, and they can carry on the prescription.
Let me know how things work out and what you think of him when you go for your appointment!

How lucky you are to find a good endo in Southampton. I go to Uni there and was referred to South Hants Hospital in St Mary's. I was referred to Dr Leatherdale but didn't see him (her?) in the end. I think I got one of his registrars and I really didn't like him. He didn't explain anything to me, tried to put me on Met (which I haven't gone on yet) He spoke poor English and didn't explain anything to me (in a way I could understand anyway!)
So, I have gone private to get a second opinion. I am due up in London in November (so long to wait!!)
Dani, thank you so much. I'll do let you know what I think of him. I'm going to see my GP next week so I'll ask her then. I can't go private now so probably I'll have to wait.
Imogen,I can so relate to you. I was reffered to Mr.O'Sullivan in North Hampshire Hospital but everytime I went there some of his registars saw me. The first one was an Asian lady with poor English and not enough knowlegde of PCOS. Good luck with your next app!
