I take it daily, for unexplained dizziness! Is it safe to take this long term???? I have had dizziness for about 6 months. I had a head CT just before x-mas and it was clear. I have been taking serc for over a month now, and if I forget to take it, I still get dizzy??/?????
Can vertigo just show up one day??????

tickled, I have Meniere's, so took Serc for quite a while for it. It didn't help me though. My ENT did say it was safe to take long term (I would have if it had helped). Did they test you for Meniere's with a hearing/balance test?

No, my doc said she is going to refer me to a specialist, but it takes a long time where I live to get in.
I am sooooo tired! I just want this dizziness, spinning whatever the hell it is to stop, it's driving me crazy! I don't know if I can live like this forever, and no one knows what it is, and how long before it goes away if at all!
I did have a head CT and it came back clear.
*frustrated*

I would get a sudden onset of swirling vertigo and if I didn't lie down on the ground within 30secs I'd start vomiting and once that happened I'd vomit for hours until I ended up in hospital needing a stemetil injection. I would feel really tired afterwards for hours. You'll probably want to hope you don't have Meniere's because there isn't a whole lot that the medical profession can do, though if the Serc is working for you that is a good sign. Check out the Meniere's sites on the net - they'll tell you quite a bit. The four major signs of Meniere's are a feeling of fullness in the ear (like you've got water in it), gradual and permanent hearing loss in one ear (it can become both sides), episodic attacks of vertigo and ringing in the affected ear. If you only have the vertigo and not the other 3 signs it's likely it isn't Meniere's. Good luck with seeing a specialist - you'll need one to diagnose you properly.

Thanx, I have checked out the site, and have none of those symptoms.
If the doctor says medical mystery i'm gonna die!
I have an appointment with my doc next thursday, hopefully she will have some insight, as she said at yesterdays appointment that she is gonna research my symptoms etc. more! *praying*
Im a responding to the posts previous, curious as to what ever happened. I hope that she receives email notifications and see's my post.
I have had virtigo for over 3 yrs. they figured it was postional virtigo that would be fixed or at least lessened by vestibular physiotherapy, well it didnt help.
I have had a Ct scan, a skull xray ( looking for tumors ), the physio bla bla bla bla nothing helps - took serc for short while but didnt like to * hide the problem* would rather solve it!
I now have one last thing to go through and that is going to a * dizzy clinic* local to me in Calgary. They will be testing me for 2 hrs on dizziness and balance. My symptoms, sadly, are becoming rather apparent to me as meniers - which I have dreaded. Life long problems with this just doesnt seem tolerable but I will! Im caving in and going to my doctor this week to get back on serc tho and see if it helps. My symptoms are worsening over time, hearing loss in one ear, fullness in that ear along with the tinitis ( have had it for 3 yrs now too ) AND the dizziness/virtigo need to be reduced so I dont go mental!
ANyhow hoping she found some relief, and it has been 4 yrs since she posted - Id love to hear whats happened!
Laurien if you do have Meniere's it's not THAT bad. I had many years of full on as bad as it gets Meniere's (and that WAS THAT bad), but over the years it is starting to get better. Not my hearing - it's pretty much gone in my left ear - but the balance problems are almost normal again now. Not sure that it'll ever be fully normal, but it has got a lot better and there IS life after a Meniere's diagnosis. I was diagnosed 7 years ago now. Good luck to you!

Thanks for that response PPA
I wonder how the previous poster has made out? Mine is getting worse as time goes by... tinitis is worsening the most, virtigo as well, more often. Hearing loss is really hard to deal with, it affects me daily with work mainly. Im off to my Dr this wk and am going to ask for Serc, I read it can help lessen the tinitis and fullness in the ear.
Have you used Serc? or any thing else to help lessen the symptoms?
Im hoping to get some relief, 3 yrs and counting and tinitis for about 10 now. YUK!
Yeah, I wonder too how Tickled is going... sorry to hear yours is getting worse. Mine got worse over time too (before getting better)... the tinnitus funnily enough I have got used to over time (it's still very much there, as well as the deafness). I've also discovered that hayfever medication helps me and I'm permanently taking antihistamines now... and steroid nasal spray when needed - and that has helped me a lot. I did take serc in the early days, but it did nothing for me. I first noticed my tinnitus in 1997 and the deafness I noticed in 2002 when I realised I couldn't hear my daughter cry if I were laying on my right side in bed. I often wonder how long the hearing problem was actually there before I realised... and then when my daughter was 18 months old the vertigo attacks hit. Hard. My daughter became self reliant at a very young age, because she had to... when I became pregnant with my son the attacks worsened to about 3 each day and DD used to (at the tender age of 3yrs 9months) walk down the street to get the neighbour two doors down to get them to come and take the baby for a couple of hours until mum stopped vomitting... I also painted preset 1 with nail polish (my husbands mobile number) on the telephone, so she could dial him so he could ring the ambulance when I was really bad. Ahhhh those were the days. But now I even have friends who don't know I have it which is a HUGE step. Laurien good luck with the Serc working for you... I hope you get your relief soon.
