Default Anyone taken Letrozole?

I was wondering if anyone O'd on their own with Letrozole. I took 6 rounds of Clomid (300mg each time) and never O'd...my doctor just put me on Letrozole today...kinda confusing...the package says it is for post menopausal women with breast cancer!

Just was wondering if anyone could put my mind at ease. Thanks

Hi Milan!

Well I haven't personally taken Letrozole, but I know somebody who has. Maybe you can PM her, her name is disneygirl.

I hear Letrozole works where Clomid has failed.

Good luck!

Hi Milan.........I am currently 19 and 1/2 weeks PG all thanks to letrozole. I tried clomid in different dosages MANY MANY times with NO positive reaction...no large follicles or ovulation.... My hubby and I had been TTC for THIRTEEN YEARS!!! We finally got PG on our second cycle of letrozole (also called "femara").

I hope this gives you some encouragement and I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers that it will also work for you!!!!!!!!

Loads of baby dust!!

Cyster Wendy Y.

P.S. Sorry I didn't respond sooner, but I only look at this site about once a month now because I get worried when I see so many miscarriages...just trying to keep positive!!!!

I don't think using Clomid in 300mg doses is recommended. In all probability it probably affected your cm and lining. My fertility doc has talked to me about trying Femara (Letrozole) even though I haven't even tried Clomid yet. I'll be seeing him tomorrow to discuss my options and what we will do. You are right that Letrozole was created for use in breast cancer. It was first used in Canada to induce ovulation from what I found on the net. It is difficult to find much info on it pertaining to fertility treatment though. One good thing about it is that it is not supposed to negatively impact cm and lining the way Clomid does. Good luck!

Wendy: Congratulations!!!

Wink Clomids a bust...now on Femara(letrozole)

Hi! Well the doc took me off the clomid...not working not even a little, and now i start femara cd3-5. Does anyone know if there were any side effects that really made you feel unwell? The pharmacist info sheet talked alot about different symptoms including doing nothing 'dangerous' and not operating heavy machinery...and for me who commutes 2 hours a day i wonder if that means no driving? My boss thinks(i work with small children) that i should actually stay home on sickleave while on this med as if i cant function at work i'm a liability...any thoughts? Did you feel side effects during or after taking the pills? I'm on 2.5 mg for only 5 days...is this common. Maybe i should have started my own thread here i didnt realize how many questions i had...sorry for my longwindedness!
Thanks in advance!

I'm going to be starting letrozole after a short one cycle break. I am concerned now that my dose is high at 7,5 mg CD 3 to 7, since 2 of you on here used 2,5. Sigh.... I am already o'ing on my own, just late, so I am even more concerned that I will o too much.... or may get major side effects. Any thoughts?

nunu and Kim,
First, Nunu....I would think twice about the high dosage of Let. My doctor is one of the first to try this. He travels all over the world and gives seminars on this...he speaks 8 languages! Any ways, I asked if he should up mine to 5 and he said NO. He said it has not been FDA approved for fertility usage, and he has not seen any greater results with an increased usage. So I would be cautious...I am not a professional...just my opinion.

Kim, I would not worry too much. I also have a long commute. I drive 1 hour 15 minutes to work and 1 hour and 15 minutes back. I take my letrozole in the morning...the only thing it does to me is give me bad headaches...it did not effect my driving or anything else...oh, and I had SORE BREASTS !!!! It was not that bad. This is my second round of Letrozole. Hope this helps! I see you tried to PM me., sorry my board was not cleaned out~!
Good Luck.

Michelle

Milan, thanks for your response. I appreciate your opinion.
The clinic I am going to is supposedly the first place Letrozole was used to induce o (yup, I'm Canadian). They do a lot of research there, in fact, I was offered to participate in a study for another drug they are studying right now, but I refused. That being said, they may be too aggressive with the dose I'm getting. I will definitely talk to them about it. I think they are giving me a higher dose because I am overweight, since a thin friend of mine who goes to the same clinic and has pcos got 5 mg, and she was seeing the same doc. This is just a theory of mine, as they have not mentioned they were adjusting my dose according to weight. Since some docs do it with Clomid, I figured it made sense they would do it with Femara. Thanks again for the heads up.

Hi Ladies!!! I just wanted to update you on my progress since you are also interested in letrozole (femara). I am currently 38 years old, so my OB suggested that I see a genetics specialist for a special ultra sound. Well I had the ultra sound this afternoon and EVERYTHNG looked "GREAT"!!! He looked at every single inch of the baby and measured every part!!! 10 toes, ten fingers, 2 normal kidneys, gallbladder ...EVERYTHING!!!!! The exam took about 1 hour and 10 minutes to go over each and every part. He also check to see the blood flow from me to the baby, the size of the uterus, ect....very very thorough!!! My hubby and I were so incredibly grateful to hear that everything is going and growing as it should be!!

So we would HIGHLY recommend the letrozole to all of you and hope this helps you make your own decision. I can;t tell you how glad we are that we tried it expecially after our visit with the specialist today!!!

We decided to find out the sex of the baby...it's a girl!!! I have been on cloud nine ever since we got back from the doctors office this afternoon!!!!

(I weighed 185 pounds when I started the med. and was only on the 2.5 dosage...hope that helps you too!!)

I hope this report helps all of you and wish everyone LoADS of blessings in the baby department!!!

Baby dust to you all!!

Sincerely,

Your cyster,

Wendy Y
