I have taken Alesse and liked it very well. The lower estrogen was great for me and I lost that bloated feeling entirely. I did have a bit more acne and possibly more hair growth but can't be sure of that since I only took it for two months.

I was put on Alesse in Aug 02. My periods began to get lighter and then I would just spot a little. I went to the Dr, I was very concerned. She said it was ok, that is was one of the side effects of this pill. She told me that I might not even have spotting in 6 months or so. She even said that it was a good pill for me to take. If anyone has experienced this, please let me know. I want to be sure. I am really doubting it. I just talked to a friend of mine that is really familiar with PCOS and she didn't think that it was a good thing. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!

I would NOT receommend Alesse to anyone with PCOS. I have just finished my 4th pack. and I am having terrible side effects. Major acne breakout all over my face, the hair on my face is darker and more of it. I am having terrible mood swings and am very irritable. Also Im noticing a higher sex drive.
I was reading a book that says people with PCOS should not use a BCP with levonorgestrel, because it increases the testosterone in your body. So i go home and guess what? Alesse has .1% levonorgestrel.
So dont take it! Im sure some people might like it, but I didnt notice the symptoms until my fourth month on it, which makes sense, since it takes about 3 months to start working.
Wow, thanks for the info. I am going to call my dr right now. I have not went in and had my labs yet, I am sure she will not let me just stop alesse. Maybe it will help with dx though, since it raises the testosterone levels. My testosterone level was 52 1 1/2 years ago. I am just afraid the pill will cause abnormal results to the tests. I am so confused and scared. Thanks for your help.

alesse was great for me. the only side effect i had was spotting... after 5 packs, i still had spotting. but my body hair lessened, it was the only BCP i was ever able to lose weight on... and i had regular periods for a while after going off of it. first time ever for that, too. if it weren't for the spotting, i might have stayed with it.
every pill effects everyone differently, though. you might have good results, you might be miserable.
yasmin is supposed to be good for PCOS and I am a basket case on it, and I spot. the other one in the US that is supposed to be good - is it Demulen? - i had no bleeds and no sex drive. I only took that for a little while and to be honest, my sex drive never did comeback. I have no idea if it's due to the pill, however.
Anyone taking Alesse?
