Smile Anyone taking Avandia?

I am on 4 mg of avandia and 0.25 mg of dexamethasone.
Since I have started my meds I have been having pains in the back of my legs. And they stay sore all the time. I hate to stop the meds because my AF has started to become normal. But, I am starting to get worried about my legs being sore all the time. Has anyone else had that problem? Or any other side affects?

I felt much better physically when taking Avandia. I never had the side effect you are describing. Hope this helps. Maybe its the dex. Good Luck!

are these muscle pains a specific side effect of either medication? If not, I would be concerned. Either way, talk to the dr. who rx'd you the meds. Better safe then sorry.

I am also taking avandia 8mg per day. I notice that my muscles are aching a lot. Mainly in my legs. As long as you don't have swelling, I wouldn't be worried about it. I understand that unlike metformin, avandia is absorbed through the muscles.

I asked my pharmacist and he said that he didn't see legs being sore as a side affect of avandia. But the steroid dexamethasone i am not sure if that could be a side affect of that or not. My legs aren't swollen they just are sore all the time.

Thanks!

I've started getting muscle cramps in my legs since I started on Avandia. Hmm I wouldn't have thought it, but maybe we need to take some extra vitamins or something? I'll ask my doc

Hey, I never thought there may be a connection. My legs have been extremely achy and crampy the last few months. It doesn't matter what I've done or if I'm sitting, standing, doing jumping jacks or standing on my head. Interesting. I'm going to have to mention this to my doc

Well the swelling is called edema. It is one of the symptoms of heart failure. Do you have swelling in your feet or ankles? shortness of breath? I would talk to your doctor if you do.

I do have swelling in my ankles...it actually hurts to wear socks. I also have shortness of breath, but i have asthma and i smoke (bad i know but i am quitting tomorrow). One more thing to add to my list for my appt next week. Thanks so much. That is extremely scary. I've always been meaning to mention the swelling, I thought it was water retention.

I took Avandia for 8 months from Jan 03-Aug 03 and have now been back on it since Aug 04 and I have never noticed any pain in my leg... Actually I feel all around better than when I wasn't on it.

I have scheduled a appointment this coming up thursday and I am going to ask him about the aches and soreness in the back of my legs. My friend who is going to nursing school said it sounded like possible blood clots. But, shes not sure. I am still researching the medicine to see if this could be a side affect or something else. I will let you guys know after my appointment. I am just glad to know that its not just me whos having this problem.

On the subject of feet and legs swelling. Take into consideration that if you sit with your legs and feet dependent (hanging down) for long periods of time or you stand or walk alot you will probably have some swelling. More so with someone overweight. Also has to do with your sodium intake. Water follows salt so if you are taking in too much sodium you may be retaining fluid for that reason. Most of the time the doctor will order Lasix for someone who has fluid retention. Just some info!

my doctor said that as long as you don't have swelling in your legs then you should be ok. He told me that this medicine absorbs into your bones and that may make them a little sore. He said you can take tylenol on occassion to help with that.
