Is anyone taking coconut oil for weight/thyroid issues???
I have recently heard that coconut oil is good for thyroid and weight issues. I am going to look into it more, but I was wondering if anyone is currently taking it??
Thanks

Counting the days until my husband comes home from Afghanistan, December 4th at 8:33pm, but hey who's counting?!
I have switched to using virgin coconut oil in cooking. Anything that needs to be cooked in/with oil is now being done with coconut oil. I'm using cold pressed olive oil for salad dressings and that's it. No other oils in the house.
My DH & I have found that things taste better when using the coconut oil. Haven't noticed any weight loss that I can contribute to it yet though.

Bethers,
I was hoping that you would reply!! Where do you get you coconut oil from? I was thinking of going to the health food store today. All we use in our house in olive oil too.
Does it taste good??

I have read up on coconut oil,and it has been reported to be very beneficial for a variety of health conditions.I have just started using it.It does increase energy.Since
I just started taking it I will have to keep you posted on any benefits. You can read more information about Coconut oil at www.tropicaltraditions.com .
I have recently been thinking of using coconut oil too. I'm finding nice reading in the forum over at the www.tropicaltraditions.com site. Thanks for mentioning it! Someone mentioned their hair isn't falling out as bad. Nice!
I buy mine at a local health food store.
Make sure that it is Extra Virgin or Virgin Coconut Oil - there are others out there that are just Coconut Oil.
Yes, it does taste good - and I have also noticed an increase in energy.
My aunt who just began lc last week tried coconut oil on Friday. She said it was aweful. It kept her on the potty all day. But....she lost 3 lbs in one day....lol!
Coconut oil is a good fat. It is better for you than the other oils, so just ignore the whole "saturated fat" stuff that we are always told - it applies more to the other oils.
1-4 Tbsp a day seems right to me.
Thats a positive sign "the coconut oil is stimulating your metabolism, keep it up :-),It helps boost my energy level when I take it. will keep you all posted!
I like to put it on a plate of steamed veggies,or on some cooked grain free cereal ,with stevia.
Would imagine it would be good on toast as well.I think its delicious, you have to make sure you get the extra virgin one, because if its refined it tastes like wax.And doesnt have the same benefits.
*women in Asia and India have been using coconut oil for centuries, and use it on there hair to stimulate hair growth!
That's a good sign Rosie
We have mostly been using it for stir-fries. I've also used it when poaching / baking chicken in the oven. I'm not eating bread, so I can't comment about putting it on toast.
Beth's right. Saturated oils managed to get a bad wrap somewhere along the line, but it's actually the transfats that are causing all of the heart disease etc, which comes from heating unsaturated oils which are then changed to these bad fats. Coconut oil is very stable at high temps and doesn't change to the nasty fats with cooking (where olive oil does, so using it raw or only very, very lightly cooked is the only way to go with it).
If anyone wants to check this info - have a look at Mercola.com and do a search for coconut oil. He's a big fan.
