Question Anyone taking Effexor????

Hey everyone! I just switched anti-depressants today from Celexa to Effoxor XR. I only got the sample starter kit, so the info. is way tooooooo UN-understandable unlike the packet you get with an actual prescription. My question is...are there any side-effects I should know about and also how well has it worked for you, if it has even worked at all. I would really be thankful for any info. Thanks so much!

I took it for 2 years. I liked it but it wasnt helping with my anxiety anymore. The only side effect I had was some weight gain when I started it but I cannot be sure that it wasnt the PCOS?
Good luck on it!!
You didnt like the Celexa?

I took Effexor years back when it first came out. I guess it has been about 4 or 5 years. I looooved it and let me tell you why. I completly lost my appetite. I lost about 50 lbs and was soooooo skinny....I had never looked better. I am sure it was so unhealthy though to not eat-obviously. I have heard an ad on the radio for it and they list anorexia as a side effect, so that makes sense now. It was not listed as a side effect at the time, so my Dr was perplexed. I didn't want to stay on it for a long time, so I got off it to see "how I was by myself." I gained some of the weight back, and went back on a lower dose until before my wedding, because I wanted to TTC right away.

My friend is on it, and she has NOT had the side effect of weight loss.

Let me tell you the bad part. I did sometimes have a funky out of it feeling. Also, if I missed a dosage, I would get a very weird "out of my head" dizziness. It wasn't pleasant. I can't explain it. The worst part was weaning myself off of it--it was very hard. I had to do it very very gradually, and I still had that awful feeling in my head. My DH did research in the net at the time and found tons and tons of poeple talking about the very same thing--withdrawal. They all described it the way I did.
It was not listed as a side effect at the time, but might be now.

Except for the withdrawal, I loved it. I was able to function in my everyday life, and I was HAPPY!!!

Best of luck and I hope you will be as happy as I was!

I took it for awhile about 5 years ago - and gained a lot of weight while on it. I am much happier with prozac and wellbutrin. I think each drug works different for everyone.

Arrow I am on it

I am on it right now and it does help. The best advice I can give you is to take it every day becasue the withdrawls can be very unpleasant.

I have not had the weight gain, as a matter of fact my doctor said that it was the only one that you would not gain weight on. I don't know that for sure.

However, I found that it was very helpful and took effect very quickly. Take it in the morning as it can keep you up if taken to close to bedtime.

Hope this helps.

I've been on Effexor for 5 years. I'm currently at 300mg a day. The only real side effects I've had has been a dry mouth. Lately I have been sweating a lot and someone suggested that this also may be the Effexor as it happened to him later on. All I know is that when I miss more than two doses I get a right bloody flu and the shakes.

I took it for two years and it worked on my depression, but gained 40 lbs and got diabetes. I quit the meds cold turkey and did not have any side effects(thank god for that). Hope it works on you with little or no side effects. ( I used to be too sleepy on that meds)
