Default Anyone taking Glucophage and Actos together?

Just curious how many others are taking these two medications at the same time. I am currently taking 2550 mg. of Glucophage a day and my Dr. is wanting to start me on Actos also, and to be honest I'm a little nervous about it. Any info. would be appreciated. Thanks.

Sheila,
My provider wants to put me on Avandia along with the Glucophage XR. She is waiting for me to establish an exercise routine because she said if I am not exercising regularly it will cause weight gain, because it works in the muscles instead of the liver.

The reason she wants to add this medication is because she said it will help to heal the damage done to my blood vessels due to years of excess insulin.

I believe that Actos and Avandia are nearly the same medication.

I was a little worried also, but the more I hear about Avandia the more comfortable I am with the idea.

I see my provider in July and it is my goal to have at least 150 minutes of exercise per week so that I can start the Avandia.

Good luck to you.
Debi

Hi ! I'm taking both Glucophage and Actos...no bad effects. My bg level has gone down, which is good news :) If I were you, I wouldn't be concerned about it...

I too am doing the combo. I'm at 1500GlucXR and only 4mgAvanda
She also just started mr on Topamax this week.

You have to increase water intake a great deal and get some form of exersize several times a week or you can gain more weight with the last two.

It's all still new to me, but yes anytime I start something new I wonder how much thought the DR acutally put into it.

Good Luck,
Patty

Hey ladies. I just started Actos 15 mg this past week. I am also taking 2000 mg of Gluc. XR saince Aug. My Dr. got my insulin levels back last week and it was 37.5 on Gluc alone. The normal range is 0-20. I am going to ask my Dr. about the Topomax also. One good thing is I am the Nurse for my Dr. so I can ask her any time.
I was glad to know about the exercise also, b/c I had no idea it caused weight gain. Thats the llast thing I need.
