Default Anyone taking low dose aldactone for acne

If so, how much, what was your particular issue, how long have you been on it, how long to work and what has it done for you. Thanks.

I should clarify what I am looking for. I remember some posts a while back mentioning that they only take 25 mg. or 50 mg. a day just to help with acne. Does anyone do this? How much and is it working? Just wondering.

I've been on aldactone before and it did wonders. For the first time in about 10 years I didn't have any acne! Iwent off of the medication for about a year and the acne has now started coming back. So now I'm back on the meds again.

It definitely can help. I had the worst uncurable acne ever until I took aldactone.

Not high, Dr. Redmond of www.hormonehelpny.com says that that the standard dosage for acne and hair loss is 100-200mg of Aldactone a day.

Hi starshadow:
This was another thing i read, that there is success for acne by taking it cyclically. I am wondering, how long have you done this? Does it work for acne? Thanks for the help.

Talking so far so good

Well I have had two cycles and have substantial improvement in my skin - my back is basically clear - my husband can't stop rubbing it! my face is all but clear - still have some around the chin area which luckily are easily covered. The Doc said that it should take at least 3 months but more like 6 months for a total result.

Hope this helps.

I have also lost 5kgs....... got to be happy with that!

Hi gals,

My doctor originally started me on 25mg a day - just to see how much it would take for it to work on my skin. So that didn't work and I gradually upped the dose to 50mg a day, then 75mg a day. Last time I saw the doctor (early march) he took it up to 100mg a day. I am finally seeing a difference.

I've also gone back to using the Clinique facial soap (the yellow one, not the dark one). I'm also using the St Ives medicated apricot scrub for blemishes. Plus, I bought an Estee Lauder product and I got a lot of samples. I am finding the sample products are actually helping my skin - I got advanced night repair for face, advanced night repair for eyes and light source moisturiser. Believe it or not, my skin has been MUCH better this week after using those. There's another Estee Lauder product I like called "Idealist" but it is so expensive, so I try to get free samples if I can. One day I'll buy a bottle because it is so darn good. Go to your local counter - they seem to give quite a bit of it away. I have never used anything like it.

Talking Hi cysters!

I was on 25 mgs of aldactone per day then my gp increased it to 50 mgs. I went to see a "regular" endocrinologist nearly two weeks ago and she said that for acne and hirstuism a dose of 100 mgs is good. I take mine everyday and I have noticed improvement since taking the aldactone (even at the low dose of 25mgs) but now I have started to break out a little bit (nothing like before) as I have just started taking metformin and I have heard that metformin can cause this in the beginning as it "irons out" one's hormonal imbalances.

Default Spiro advice

Hi,

I have just started Aldactone (spiro) at 100mg/day, I was just wondering - how quickly do people notice results on this medication?

My doctor mentioned that the drug might not be as effective for me as I do not experience erratic menstration or some of the other symptoms associated with hormonally influenced acne. For those whom Aldactone has worked did you have symptoms (such as unpredictable menstration) in addition to acne?

Finally, has anyone found that taking Aldactone with a birth control pill such as Yasmin has made a difference is curing acne?

Thanks everyone - I hope spiro works for me, next to bat is Accutane, yikes!

Do you have to be on BCP while on spiro? I know you are not supposed to get PG while on it, but what if you faithfully use another method of contraception? DH and I use "orhto options" (spermicide gel) and we are very careful. We never forget! The reason I ask is that I would like to avoid BCP. Also, will spiro make irregular periods more or less of a problem?

I was on spiro 100 mg for 2 years. I had irregular AF the whole time (had nonhormonal IUD; I hate bcp), every 2 weeks. Yay. Good news was I lost 40 pounds and had beautiful skin (skin got better in one month). Also stopped shedding head hair & growing mustache. Actually, my hair grew REALLY fast but didn't ever regrow bald areas. Took metformin and made spiro stop working--all symptoms got worse during & even after quitting met.

I had tried it before but it made my skin dry and flakky.
I stopped using it and now not taking any medication. Just eating a bit healthy and trying to exercise regularly.

Also, I use a bit of aspirin as a zit zapper and it helps.
